Yeah I have phoned Carter a couple times and bitched about he lack of quality or trying to get some advice on anything I might be doing wrong (which there isn't really) and their support has been dismal to. Im not looking for a refund or return, im just looking for reliability.
Im now carrying...
Yup that's my thoughts I am going to go German built. It is higher mileage but seems to be tighter then the US one. I do own them both, both are out of diesels.
Going thru some ZF gear boxes trying to pick a good candidate for my next T-19 to ZF swap. Im looking at a 1990 build date S5-42 that's built in Germany and a 1995 build date one that's built in the U.S.
Are there any differences in quality with the two build loactions?
Ah yeah I believe it. And to add to my original post, I also had one leak from the electrical connector area and the bottom of them pump. It was sucking in air while running and leaking fuel out when off
Just putting this out here as a FYI on what I have been dealing with; seemingly another poor quality issue arising.
For years I have used Carter P4070 electric fuel pumps on everything from heavy equipment, to automobile applications and have used them for years on our idi's when converting to...
I have a customer seeking a fresh reman Idi engine, I have done many idi swaps and work in the past but have never had to source a fresh reman before.
Who out there is currently producing quality reman long blocks for sale?
Thanks
Does anyone have an current part number for a bed bolt kit for our trucks? I know Dorman makes kits for 98 and newer trucks 924-312 is their number for that.
But im looking for a similar kit for the pre 1997 beds. any info would be great. Thanks
Good to know thanks. Will have to pull the turbo off to get at it I guess. The picture of the engine out of the truck, is an older photo. Unfortunately one of the coolant ports is at the rear of the turbo, not easily accessed at all.
Here is a picture of it. Showing the water inlet right up front, and the other port is on the back. The wire/sheet metal around the inlet was possible for protection against rubbing on the air box, don't know. Im in the process of tiding the engine up and putting it back into service.
I have an early Banks, non wastegated turbo on an 85 6.9. There is a "24025" stamped in the bottom of the compressor housing and a "11318" is all that's still legible on the tag. Square filter box Works great, not much play in the shaft. I will try to get pics in the daylight tomorrow.
However...
Sure seems like some of the old tried and true brands are not holding up as they used to. The last two carter mechanicals I have installed, lasted about 30-50,000miles till they started to leak or loose prime
Pulling an idi that's mated to an E4od. The trans will be staying in the truck for the engine pull. Rad and hood are off the truck and I have lots of pulling power and lift to pull as high as I need. I have pulled them in the past, with the TC both attached to the flywheel still and also left...
Hey folks. In the past I have rented a frost plug install tool when in need. Would like to buy my own finally. What is the latest on sourcing one of these things out?
And what's the latest for good frost plugs?
Thanks.
Oh.....how I hate block heater problems during those temps. Especially when its only a 2 year old offshore made heater with little use, that full retail was paid on.
Im one to never float a syncro trans. Im a truck driver and float transmissions plenty, when its a transmission designed to do so. But not a ZF. I also always start in 1st even with 4.10 gearing, unless the truck is rolling slightly or starting off downhill. Why put extra strain on the...
Old post! But......I have one to, installed on an 85 F250. From Kamloops. Works well. Produces about 10psi of boost. The truck came into my possession due to suspected bad head gaskets tho so I haven't run it much. The turbo is being "stored" on that truck till I do something with it.
My Kent Moore timing light is no longer working and parts have been lost, im now attempting to use a brand new Snap-On Mt257 timing adaptor.
Its easy to set up and get a timing light pulsing. But....do I need to mark 8.5 degrees or whatever my desired timing setting is, on the timing plate on...
