Now that these trucks are 30+ years old and usually high mileage, 6.9 or 7.3....its probably worth considering for all folks who have a truck that has not been apart, never had head gaskets done etc. ; to consider re-torqueing the head bolts as a preventative maintenance procedure. Just my...
Installed 2 FRB-13's today. One on my 86 6.9l F350, mounted on the frame rail where my Carter 4070 was. And the other one on my IH 466 5 ton, in the engine bay at top of fuel tank level, where my Carter 4070 was. I have put no more then a test drive on both of them, had to fab a custom mount...
No the truck doesn't have to be warm. Yes the rockers go back in the same places, keep them organized keep them clean. Go back and forth on the when tightening them down to ensure the seat nice and square.
No, timing marks don't have to get aligned in regards to gears or anything although the...
I have not been able to stop a combustion leak with a re-torque. Its its only a minor leak (the odd bubble in your reservoir) you might have success, might not be forever but might buy you some time. So a combination of a re-torque and make sure your rad cap is relieving pressure at the...
I ALWAYS re-torque 6.9L's. Somewhere it was factory recommended by either IH or Ford to have them done after 30,000miles. Most didn't get done, and some debate if its worth it or not. Many go a lifetime without blowing head gaskets, others don't. It doesn't cost anything except new valve...
I also have a truck equipped with a Kamloops built CTS. Nice to see someone else running one, they are rare. Where did you have the estimate for a rebuild?
Yes you can test run it without the turbo.
If you didn't run a long time with water in your oil, I wouldn't worry about the turbo...
Yup, common problem. Sometimes you have to get creative when mounting a new/modern unit, but that's what needs to get done. You don't want to run without one for any length of time. Your factory fuel filter will hold some water but don't rely on it to do that job for you.
Racor is probably...
Yeah I would add a little thread sealant to the existing amount that came pre installed. Not gonna hurt anything and it would suck to have one start leaking after a while. So thro a little more on.
Yeah you can re use the ring. I have seen the ring not get used also....never saw and i'll...
Im excited about the reliability and longevity potential, yet im scared of how many engines may get ruined by seeing "how much fuel they will actually take before they blow"
Doing a tranny swap in a few days. I haven't had much frost plug issue in the past and have previously just left the bellhousing frost plugs alone when having a transmission out. What are ya'll's thoughts on not messing with what's not broken, when it comes to frost plugs? I DO have an...
Exactly!!! We are in a form of a crisis with the lack of quality in modern parts. I was also ignorant that the Walbro pumps existed. Im sure there are a few others out there that absolutely have to be reliable (military, marine etc.) This will be my first Walbro install. Not sure where to...
Just ordered 2 Walbro FRB-13's. Gonna thro one on a 466 powered truck and another on an 86 idi. Both have fuel pressure gauges already. Will post back with results. I didn't order a pressure regulator, will see if I need one I guess
After a couple decades of reliable use, I am officially done with P4070's. I don't think I can regain trust even once the new US built ones become available.
That's too bad. On my commercial trucks I have been running sealed beam l.e.d "Trucklites" and they are nothing short of amazing. Great light pattern and long distance throw and clarity, low draw and long life span. Sure wish there was something even close to as good for the 9007 style...
Whats the latest on quality 9007 series LED bulb replacements for OBS trucks? I purchased one set of "Brightsource" bulbs and the highbeams were terrible. The light was bright but they didn't throw a distant light, so long range visibility was terrible. I am wondering what people have...
Just called up Carter and bitched about their pumps failing so bad. The tech support person I spoke with, mentioned that 2 years ago all Carter rotary vane pumps have been manufactured in China. He said that they have switched back to the US (As many companies seen to be doing, thanks Trump!)...
I might try one with the terrible reliability problems that I have been having with the Carter 4070 recently.
Where are you guys mounting the Walbro on your trucks?
And last night, I was out in my IH rollback with a 466, it was on its second Carter P4070 in 1300hrs, and as I was pulling a hill with plenty of traffic behind me.....I suddenly without warning lost all fuel pressure. ….the damn pump quit. Probably 400hrs on it. It has a inline filter...
