Slow hvac fan speed--and too damn cold

I would first check for debris the cowl, heater/HVAC box etc. Make sure your blower motor resistor is not burnt out on a coil or two (replace if necessary) and go from there. The 87-91 vintage seem to typically blow pretty strong.

    Pcm swap???

Did you check the 30amp mini fuse in the in cab fuse box, not sure the number but it sends power to the ECM. Those symptoms present themselves when that circuit is dead. Its right at the bottom on one of the rows but check a diagram to be sure which one or just check all the fuses and make sure...

    Pcm swap???

Paranoid? Nah...didn't say that. This is a forum, im adding my opinion just like you; for all of us to read, think about, share and learn from. Take from it what you will. And I do carry a spare cps. And yes, the IDM's and PCM's have been reliable in these trucks along with many other...

    Pcm swap???

No, It called be proactive. The pcm's do fail and I have had two customers in the past month with failed pcms, and I have lost 2 personally in the past decade or so. Electronic things all have a lifespan, and as these trucks are aging; these failure points are starting to present themselves...

    Pcm swap???

And although expensive...what are the options out there for a "new" pcm or remaned one? And have folks had much luck with them? As these trucks are aging, I can see sourcing PCM's and IDM's becoming a major problem in the near future. They will all fail sooner or later. If they can't be...

    6.9idi head retorqueing.

Glad to hear. Yup, just another case of successful head re-torqueing!

Does the CDR blowby need filtering?

Just simply run a hose from the outlet of that CDR, to that intake ducting. You might have to get creative to plumb it in there nice but sometimes that just how it goes. Once its done, its done; and you won't have any of those crankcase gases all over the place. Which these engines have a lot of

Rustproofing opinions? Converter vs wire wheel

Another option for some folks, is yearly spraying of used engine oil all over your under body/frame. Not the prettiest...but it works for rust and gets into all the hard to get spots.

Best IDI electric lift pumps + Specs

I just installed 2 about 3 months ago tops. Probably 50hrs on the idi application and about 300 on the DT466 application. So not much, but so far so good. No hiccups at all. The one on the 466 is mounted higher and further from the tank and actually puts out a consistent 5-7psi which is...

    PSD lift pump assembly

Yeah the OEM psd pumps have been seen lasting 10,000hrs, 400,000miles. Which has me impressed. Will see if the aftermarket ones last half that.

Best IDI electric lift pumps + Specs

Yup don't even try the Carter rotary vanes anymore, like the 4070. They are now pure JUNK. I have 7 dead ones on the shelf, all have less then 500hrs on them. Whereas they used to last 5000+ hours in the same mounting locations. I have switched to Walbro FRB-13. So far, no problems. Lots...

6.9/ 7.3 Motorcraft glow plug life expectancy?

I have had a few sets last up to 10 years or more, with mostly manual control, pretty well daily driven. Sometimes only one cycle per day, sometimes several. However, I did post a few weeks ago after I have noticed 2 sets that have been replaced over the past 2 years, starting to fail already...

    PSD vs IDI fuel economy

Yeah new trucks use the same amount of fuel with 3x the power for the same fuel burnt. The overall cost of ownership long-term however....is significantly higher with newer trucks tho with massive repair bills every time the check engine light comes on. And we'll see if they are even still...

    Beru plugs early failure?

Hmmmm. Yea I have never had an issue with them on manual control in the past. I convert more 6.9 to manual the 7.3's with the bullet style, as they 7.3 controller as we know is more reliable and often still works

    Stiction eliminator?

Yea that intermittent valve tick seems to be pretty common in these idis. More frequently no doubt, with 7.3's over 6.9's, which is interesting but Im not going to get into that at this moment, When the tick is related to lifters (sticking or hanging up a bit) which it sometimes is, then yes...

    Beru plugs early failure?

For the bullet style connector opposed to the spade style on the ZD-1's? I don't believe there is a difference in the actual plug itself is there? I have run many sets in mine and customers trucks over the past 15 years or so, without issue.

    Beru plugs early failure?

6 seconds has never been enough here in the cooler climate on a cold start with any idi I have run with any brand of plug or any harness. Usually 8 or 9 seconds will do it and 10 or 11 on a really cold morning. I do run White Rogers relays on Idi's along with PSDs, Harness's are in good...

    Moisture on dipstick

Good chance its condensation. Try going for a longer run, get the engine up to temp and keep it there for a while.

    Beru plugs early failure?

Running manual control, never more then 10 or 11 seconds and never an afterglow at all and never cycle with warm engine.

    Beru plugs early failure?

Anyone else noticing early failure in Buru glow plugs? I have noticed some in the past 2 years. With correct timing, good injectors, no extended glow times etc.. ...just curious. Are these yet another thing taking a turn for the worst in the quality department?

School me on Limited Slip Differentials

I installed a Dana Powrlock in a Dana 70 a few years back. Worked fine for about a year (no abuse, no 4 wheeling, just regular daily driving and sometimes in snow and mud) After about 40k its not doing anything anymore, just like an open diff. I have changed the fluid a few times, added...
