Rotella 15w40 vs Rotella 15w40 Full Synthetic

Yeah IDI's are sooty, especially N/A ones. So I use cheap non syn oil and just change my oil at the recommended intervals and I don't try to get extended service from my engine oil. In Powerstrokes, they burn much cleaner, even turbo'd idi's burn a lot cleaner. So running synthetic oil in them...

    Coolant

I've run it for years in many makes and model diesels.... no issues as of yet.

    83 6.9 swap into 78 f350 advice or tips?

I have one in a 69, but I didn't do the swap. Engine mounts, rad outlet locations are a couple things that come to mind

What batteries do you have in your idi?

Group 31's. But I think there is a clearance issue in the 92 and newer "OBS" trucks and in those I run 65's. 65's should almost always be plenty good provided that everything else is up to par in regards to your starting system.

    Anyone proactively replace parts?

Yup I try to stay ahead of things if I catch some early signs of failure. Not so much by mileage. And with powerstrokes, things like cam sensors, gp relays etc, I just replace whenever I get a new to me truck, if they are showing signs of acting up or not.

Long crank times hot or cold

I would first pull the allen head plug on the top of the high pressure oil reservoir, and see if the oil level is way down. It normally should be within an inch of the top of the res, even after sitting for a long time. If its down, it would indicate a hi pressure oil system leak somewhere...

    Source for Motorcraft TPS sensor?

    Yup, its tight.

    Hot Transmission

Yeah on those types of hills when loaded I try to leave the OD off and leave it in a particular gear (3rd/2nd etc) for the duration, instead of shifting back and forth for short periods of time in each gear.

    Source for Motorcraft TPS sensor?

On this particular truck, there is a consistent dead spot at about 1/3 throttle; and at startup warm or cold, about 1 second after the engine fires, the idle bumps up by about 100rpm to 750 or so from 650 where they usually seem to run at. So those are the two symptoms. Yea it may be the...

    Amsoil synchromesh in ZF-5

Installed MTF in 2, ZF-6's now. I can say the cold shifts have improved slightly, but not as noticeable as the zf-5. However these zf-6's are in better shape/tighter then the zf-5 that I tried. I have always found that the zf-6 is a little notchier to shift then the zf-5. So anything helps I...

    Source for Motorcraft TPS sensor?

Id like to go new. I have a few OEM old ones around but in some applications id prefer new.

    Source for Motorcraft TPS sensor?

It seems as if the TPS sensors are getting harder to find, especially the sensor alone without the entire pedal assembly. Does anyone have a source for Motorcraft sensors? The dealer can't even get them here without buying the entire pedal assembly, and that ain't cheap. $760Cad.

    Super Duty ABS/HCU symptoms

Yup the replacement HCU did the trick. I did have to bleed it a few times, via Forscan. But its all back to normal now, thanks

    Super Duty ABS/HCU symptoms

No I don't. Replaced the HCU last night. I think that may have done it....I need to bleed some more (waiting for a second person)

    Super Duty ABS/HCU symptoms

What are the symptoms of a failing/failed ABS HCU unit? (99-03 superduty) Im having a tough time solving a soft pedal/pedal goes to the floor issue with a 99. New calipers, lines and hoses all the way around (no leaks anywhere). New master cylinder (bench bled). Bled several bottles of...

    Superduty ABS bleeding.

Downloaded Forscan, it did what it was supposed to and cycled the ABS Module. Thanks. Is a single service bleed usually enough or does it sometimes have to get done multiple times? I am still having soft pedal issues with no visible air at the bleeders. Im wondering if I should service bleed...

Cetane Booster beneficial in a 7.3 idi?

Cetane boosters have shown very little positive or negative results (for me) in the idi world. I have played with most of the different additives, watching EGT's closely and comparing numbers, monitoring "seat of the pants" performance, smoke output, starting etc.... There may be very subtle...

    Superduty ABS bleeding.

There is apparently a program or an "app" called Forscan that will work. I am going to try to get my hands on it. I'd like to get the proper tooling rather then doing the gravel road thing on a customers truck or future trucks that may not be drivable at the time, etc. Anyone run the Forscan...

    Superduty ABS bleeding.

Yeah I spoke with AE twice today and they are adamant that they have no service bleed for the 99 that im working on. They have it available for 2004 and up however.

    Superduty ABS bleeding.

Just did a full brake job on a 99 F series. Master, calipers, rotors, lines/hoses etc. Bled till the cows came home via conventional two person method, vac method, gravity method. After bench bleeding the M/C first. There is still sponge in the pedal although there is no visible bubbles in...
