    Anybody use a grid heater?

I have started idi's that had non-functioning glow plugs, a few times with a feathery acetylene torch flame down the intake for a couple mins, then while the engine is cranking....did this if I didn't want to use ether or didn't have any. They still crank a while before they start, but it...

    T444e problems

Yup I run 250hrs on my 7.3 psd service trucks/wreckers with mobil 1 5w-40 and with a clean good running engine I will go 250hrs on dino oil 15-40 also Sometimes that's less then 3000miles with lots of idle time. And idle time can load up the oil with un-burnt fuel particulate and such...

    Towing ?

Better to go slow and be safe when loaded to the max

    Luk or South Bend?

Ya the stiffer clutches are not easier on the hydraulics either.... which isn't great

    Luk or South Bend?

I have only used Luk's. several of them. Never had a failure. They are loud/rattley when idling in neutral however

    Towing ?

Yes, the voltage settings on the FIPL can be increased for higher shift points and quicker kickdown times, you can also manually shift down into second if its not doing so as quickly as you would like or if you want to be proactive for a known corner or slow down area ahead. You can also do a...

    Jasper Engines

I have an old Jasper reman idi in a 92 truck. Not sure on mileage on it since rebuilt but probably a lot and they probably were not easy miles either. Even compression across the board at about 400psi +/-. Does not consume coolant or oil. So that's good enough for me.

    Custom 60G glow plugs

https://www.oilburners.net/threads/beru-plugs-early-failure.86607/ Started a thread a little over a year ago when I first started noticing them failing. Today, in my Rockauto shipment were some Motorcraft glow plugs, 7.3 psd plugs and the shipping label said they came from Ireland. Which is...

    Custom 60G glow plugs

Yup, some good hi temp anti-seize on those threads for sure, then they should be ok

    Custom 60G glow plugs

How did your most recent ZD's fail? Suddenly? I have run dozens of new ZD's over the past years, but I did have 2 sets go bad suddenly over the past year. No prolonged cycle times or controller issues or anything. Just plain sudden fail. No swelling, no discoloration, not ether, timing...

    the tick

Its not uncommon for idi's (more so the 7.3 due to tighter valve seals) to develop worn valve guides (more so the exh guiders rather then the intakes) and develop a certain "tick/huff". It's also not uncommon to have a lifter stick a bit and cause the same sorta noise. Often the lifter tick...

    Towing ?

Yup. I have used several Autometers. They are reliable and money well spent. Just take your time drilling and tapping a hole in the ex manifold, and the rest is a walk in the park and you will be happy that you installed it

    Towing ?

Yup. And we hear a lot of horror stories about the E40d's, but I along with many others have had great luck with them; including the early ones and including towing; provided that you don't abuse them, keep the fluid clean (I use synthetic in them), be proactive in downshifting manually before...

    Towing ?

Yes. They will pull, but slow on hills. With your E4Od, don't expect to pull any significant grades in OD, be proactive and downshift early and keep the rev's up for hills. As mentioned above, a pyrometer is a must if you want the truck to last. And with your E40d, add a nice big trans...

Factory Ford E-Locker in OBS Sterling 10.25

I recently installed a Yukon Dura-Grip LS in a 10.25 axle. The truck hasn't done 1000 miles yet but so far I am pretty impressed with the performance of it. Zero noticeable noise or chatter when its engaging or disengaging and it has locked up every time that I needed it to both with a load on...

GB REMANUFACTURING Injector install kits, the caps don't seal. FYI

Just a word of caution that the GB REMANUFACTURING, part number 7003 Injector install kits (for 6.9l) include caps that do not seal. They are way too loose fitting. I install several return line kits a year and sometimes try new brands that become available in search for the best quality...

Carter P4070 Electric fuel pump failures.

Over the past month, I have witnessed two more 4070 (modern Chinese built units) fail, both with under 400hrs on them. So I think im up to at least 10, 4070 failures in my world, of newer Chinese units, with under 500hrs on them. All installed correctly and none of which running alternative fuels.

    GB Remanufacturing valve cover harneses

Installed a set on a 00 yesterday. No fitment issues or any visible weak spots. Made note of mileage and sent the truck away and we'll see how they do

    Coolant

And most industrial or OTR applications run a 7-10psi cooling system and they are just fine. I think automotive applications are generally higher psi's due to the higher boiling point for the less then smart drivers that let their vehicles overheat to the point of the coolant boiling. Kind of...

    Coolant

Yes the system pressure is an interesting one to keep in mind. Makes sense. I do tend to run a lower pressure cap, 10psi and in some cases 7psi. I have done this for years, while maintaining SCA levels and have yet to have a problem and have torn down some wet sleeve engines that were...

Factory Ford E-Locker in OBS Sterling 10.25

Ya never heard of a factory one. There is a factory LS for sure and they were quite common and they did ok if not abused. And lots of aftermarket units for sure. Im installing a Yukon Dura Grip LS at the moment.

    GB Remanufacturing valve cover harneses

One thing with the GB harnesses, they have an integrated plug for the UVCH/VCG join area so less shit in there to melt or come uplugged. I think that is a note worthy upgrade

    GB Remanufacturing valve cover harneses

Yes the glow plugs on a remote switch is probably one of the best reliability modifications one could do on a 7.3 psd in my opinion. Really saves on alternators, harnesses and oddly enough motorcraft glow plugs seem to really last a long time in powerstrokes even when on factory control, but...

    GB Remanufacturing valve cover harneses

I'll give them a shot. I have a glow plug and harness/vc gasket job to do coming up, and will install the GB's. They do seem to be made in the USA...which is a good start

    GB Remanufacturing valve cover harneses

I have only ever used Motorcraft valve cover gaskets and harnesses on powerstrokes, but I recently bought 2 set of GB Remanufacturing 99-03 7.3, new in the box harnesses at an estate sale of a Ford mechanic, for next to nothing. Any horror stories with GB Remanufacturing? I might give them a shot.
