I lived in Santa Ana (Disneyland) in 1957 and you could hardly see across the street it was so smoggy! We left Calif for Colorado in 1959. Lived in Colorado for four years and moved back to SoCal, Thousand Oaks in Ventura county. The air was getting better but by how much??? My family moved...
I would lock in my hubs, on my 2004 F-350, when the rains came and keep them locked in if I didn't have to take a freeway somewhere. I also had Warns on my 1946 CJ-2A. There was almost nothing 1946 about it. I updates everything but not the Warn hubs. Never had a problem with any Warn hubs!
When I had my diesel F-350 I would get on it hard every time I got on the freeway onramp. "Drive it like you stole it!" Diesel engines DO NOT like to be babied.
Yes, to get heavy loads going from a stop. I owned a Kenworth C-500 with a Detroit Diesel 8-V92 and a 13 speed tranny. Under a heavy load I would start in first gear and shift three times getting through an intersection. Under no load I would start in 4th gear and get through the intersection...
I had a '65 Chevelle SS in High School. Nice car and the only power anything it had was under the hood. I drove it to Univ of Aridzona in Tucson. Oh and no A/C!. I got into street racing and sold it for a 1970 GTO 4 speed, Dark Green and no A/C! Stupid kids - speed is more desirable than...
It might be easier to put the flange on the tranny and the rear end and measure the distance between the center of the u-joint cups. Make sure they are phased the same; level between the u-joint cups on each end.I did this on my Jeep CJ-2a with a Turbomatic 400 in place of the standard tranny...

IDIBRONCO - Another way to look at this is that the front's only turning when the hubs are engaged so the front's "not as important".
Four wheel drive is important! It is most important when you actually NEED IT!! You will NEED IT when it doesn't work!
NO! You will destroy your transmission! What you are trying to accomplish is keeping the engine AND tranny at the same rpms. This is why you have to shut off the engine to engage the tranny. Then use the starter to get the engine going. You will have to shift up to second by pulling the...

As IDIBRONCO stated "the fuel drains back? Air is not intruding then." fuel will not drain back unless something can take its place (air). It will create a vacuum and the fuel will not drain away. I am not saying you are wrong. I just wanted to clear this up.
