'89 7.3 T Wait to Start light not turning off. New to me, Property Of Shop.

Pre-heating the engine will help starting in cold weather. You should see about 1 ohm + or - resistance for good plugs. If they are not around 1 ohm get new plugs. No resistance means an open glow plug (no circuit). And more that 2 ohms means they will not draw enough current to get hot...

Wiring winch to trailer - 3rd battery?

Winches draw more power under load and even more power if heavily loaded. The power draw is totally dependent on the load. More load = more power draw.

    6.9 IDI endless hard starts

Don't use ether. You could have bad results using them when the glow plugs are hot. If all the glow plugs are working, you will NOT need ether.

    Glow plug controller questions.

It is my understanding that the controller uses resistance to determine if the circuit is good or not. An open part of the circuit (bad glow plug) will cause the controller to stop functioning. This is why we check every glow plug individually (about 1 ohm resistance) to make sure they all are...

    Pre Swap Considerations?

Pismo Beach 'used' to allow us to drive on the beach AND the dunes to the East of the beach. This was back in the 1970s and 1980s. We would go camping with dune buggies and Jeeps. Racing up the dunes but only 25mph on the beach. California closed Pismo to ALL traffic some time ago...

White and gray snoke under hard acceleration

Black smoke indicates some over fueling, like when you stomp on the throttle to pass another vehicle. White smoke is probably oil consumption. Is your oil level going down in the oil pan?

    Power steering pump cap o-ring

The lack of an o-ring on the cap is to vent the pump. Fluid will not create a vacuum as the fluid level drops.

Unknown starting issue. Problem almost certainly lies with operator.

The reason for dual batteries is the current flow to the starting systems. A single battery will have barely enough current to run the starter AND glow plugs. YOU NEED two batteries!
