    Volt regulator

If the engine is running, I would say "yes". If it is not running, you have to replace the batteries.

    3g alternator conversion--pulley problem.

Loctite, along, will do the job of securing the nut. This is what Locktite is for. They make two kinds; perminate and removable.

    Coolant to engine locations

Your water leak could be from one of the freeze plugs, on each side. They can get corroded and leak.

    6.9 IDI questions

Lower oil pressure means less restrictions and more flow. Dirty oil filter could cause an increase in pressure and changing it will lower the pressure.

Another "Starter not turning engine over"

Try jumping the Starter Solenoid and see what that gets you. Jump the two large connectors and it should run the Starter Motor.

    RPM top out at 3600

I believe there is an RPM limiter on ALL diesel engines. I used to hit the limiter on my DD 8-V92 a lot. I know the 6.0 had a limiter as did the 7.3.

    89 7.3 IDI sluggish

This sounds like a reduction of fuel flow. Pull off the fuel line to the tank and add a clear short hose. Now run it for a few seconds. What do you see? It could be something in the tank blocking the fuel.

    Slow crank

Did you check and clean the ground wires? If the CCA's are not high enough, you will get slow cranking.

6.9 no start below 60 degrees or so

NO PEDAL at all. The injectors will give the engine enough fuel to start. I have owned a 7.3 IDI , a 6.0 and an old 8V92TA (Detroit Diesel). None of these needed fuel to start.

So what did you do with your truck today?

I sure wish they still made ole fashion washing machines without computers! We got a computer controlled washer a year ago. It works fine but it goes thru a lot of pre washing cycles to make sure EVERYTHING is perfect. It keeps going back to HOT wash in every cycle and we have to keep setting...

Short burst of poor engine sound

These engines don't like to be babied. Get on it. Rev it up and drive it like you stole it. Being too "kind" to it just causes all sorts of small problems, like carbon build up on the valves and pistons.
