Don't get me wrong, this thing runs like a top, I had an old NA IDI before and this thing starts instantly, no smoke unless you get on it at low RPM and really pulls hard from 2,500 to 3,000. Pulls great from 2,000 to 2,500 and pulls like my old NA below that, probably a little better. I just...

Previous owner did the following a year ago, with receipts: Heads stone turned at machine ship New valves, springs and guides Lower compression thicker head gasket "Upgraded head bolts" -not sure if that means studded... It's a '91 7.3, but the turbo and injection pump ate from a '94 Blocked...

OK. The PO put a single mass flywheelnon it, so I don't like chugging it anyway, but all the gear rollover noise is gone by 1,250 even under full load. It would be nice to have more boost down there.

It's showing 2-3psi until 2,000 rpm, then runs up to 10 real quick and tops out at 15 right at 3,000 and is pulling very strong. Then it falls on it's face, like I've said on the other thread, defuels at 3,000 and won't go over 3,250 even without a load due to the gevernor. I haven't messed...

How well does the 7.3idi turbo pull a 4x4 extended cab down the road at 75mph at 1,700rpm? My boost comes on at 2,000, so real power isn't really there for me. But if I'm just cruising empty?

Sounds good. OK, looked under my truck and the t-case isn't divorced, so the front drive shaft literally can't be shortened, it wouldn't make sense unless the whole engine/trans/t-case assembly moved. I'm confused!

Sounds like a trip to San Antonio may be in my near future... Probably a couple weeks, if it's still available for sale then.

Know anyone or a shop that could shorten that drive shaft? Hopefully in South Texas... I think I'm out of my league there.

    Low RPM governor speed

So cut the short spring AND stretch out the longer one to make up for it?

    Low RPM governor speed

Now I'm confused. Which one is the "short spring"? So, I don't cut either spring, but I stretch out the "longer" one??? They look the same length to me? I'm lost...

The governor spring is the largest of those two on the shaft, correct?

Thanks for the photos! I'll get under my truck tonight and see what kind of trouble i would be getting myself into. so, this unit would go between the transmission and transfer case? Or just effect the rear? How does this effect the speedo? Is it easily adjustable on a '91?

No reservation at all! I just want to make sure i am going the correct way with the spring! You can pull that bolt as spring with the IP still on the engine, correct? Obviously going to get diesel on stuff...

I really want that. I'll do $650. I just want to make sure it's something I can do myself. I need to look at the front driveshaft and see what shortening it would entail, I guess that means i will be relocating the transfer case? Wait, it is a divorced transfer case? I need to spend some...

Wow! How did you take the governor out? Just remove the spring? I'm just wondering, worst case scenario if I cut the spring too short, if that's the only issue I would have, or does that spring do something else also?

Hmm... How does one usually shorten the front drive shaft? Lol! You got a photo of one of these installed?

The drive shafts and brackets from my truck is all I need? Or "this truck"? Which truck? Lol! I guess my teal qquestion, will $650 get everything I need to install it if I have the stock components on my truck?

Awesome, so a "lighter" spring raises the governor then? I'm guessing you've done this job, eh?

I want it! How is it mounted and how much? Vacuum actuated or mechanical?

Cool, thanks! Got a question, noticed your sig talks about a gear vendors Overdrive, is that in the rear diff? I just drove the truck from Abilene (where I bought it) and these 4.10's aren't nice to the engine at 75mph!

    Low RPM governor speed

Got a question. I've seen threads here talking about raising the governor RPM above the factory 3,600rpm and I am guessing most of that data is useful, but thought I would ask here for clarification. My truck has been gone through by the PO, its a '91 7.3idi with the factory turbo system...

Hello! I may have registered here years ago, but I couldn't find any posts showing as mine, so maybe I've just lurked for years. Anyway, I just bought another IDI and I'm loving it, had a question, so I'll be starting a thread in the appropriate place right after I type this up. A little...

    This weekend its finally time

Ever get this one going again? Ever take it apart and find what failed? Also, where did you get the rpm governor spring? Mine stock is de-fueling right at 3,000 rpm and wont go past 3,300 max, unloaded. It should be around 3,600 or 3,700rpm, right?
