    Well, back again.

After a year diesel-less I finally picked up another IDI! 85, 6.9, 4 speed, only moves in low range for some reason. Little rough around the edges and it has that red interior :puke: $800 cant complain too much.

    My jaw literally dropped

Mine had none in the wheelwells, very back corners of the bed only.

    My jaw literally dropped

Was not expecting a brick when I saw an F-350 diesel for $8300. Curious about the rust as well.

I wouldnt worry too much about collapsing mechanical roller lifters, pushrods would be a good idea though

For now I mostly wanted to know about the valve springs, I no longer have my 6.9 (moment of silence) but am in the market for another.

    14 bolt swap

FYI 14 bolts dont have a 3.55 ratio. 3.42, 3.73 and 4.11 are most common. Depends on your current gearing. And FWIW the Sterling is stout.

Bringing up a dead thread, thats my specialty, hows the valve spring battle going?

    Surging AGAIN

I tried to chase down a problem like this forever changing IPs, lift pumps, fuel filters, turned out being tank algea plugging the pickup in the tank. It was even worse when I was running WMO, I assume because it was thicker and even harder to move through the plugged pickup.

    Alternator, or Voltage Regulator?

Ive had that happen... Knew something had to be wrong when the fuel gauge was at full :rotflmao so I pulled over and they all went back to normal...

    Alternator, or Voltage Regulator?

Try the reg first... ask me how I know.... but a brand new alt is always nice LOL Not sure about the 87+ trucks but on my 83 the regulator was the same one it had been for the previous 15+ years on Fords.
  14. Hyde

    well, pulled the truck today.....

Wasnt doin too bad for not a lot of power, not a lot of weight, and a real short wheelbase!

Should I be concerned about algae?

    Open Style Intake

Ive been looking at this and a 6637 filter for my intake. Its cheaper locally. http://www.jegs.com/i/Spectre/865/9849/10002/-1
  18. Hyde

Is the 6.9 really this gutless?

A 454 or a 460 would... and get you about 5mpg doin it. Is your fuel turned up with the turbo and do you have gauges?
  19. Hyde

How do you let people know there is an IDI under your hood? (emblems and/or decals)

I get the opposite, true duals and straight piped. Everyone thinks its a big block till the smoke comes or I drop it down to idle.

Thanks for the offer, Ill probably get an intake hat and do a ghost tube soon, then just run a prefilter in the mud. I could also just go find the couple of stockers I have somewhere LOL
  21. Hyde

That would be the best for the mud, no idea what happened to the stocker though

I think the OP was referring to something like this, Ive been running it for quite a while. That said its very open to debris (mud) and power really drops once the engine gets up to temp. I plan to change it out to a ghost tube style one of these days.

    PSD Turbo on a IDI

Lighting it a little later than a stock PSD would be somewhere after tomorrow. Aside from the mounting issues you could get a .85 exhaust housing from a super duty. That might spool alright.
  24. Hyde

    Gonna Dyno It.

This is what I run, ive never had any kind of cool air or ram air on this truck so I dont have a comparison. It does seem to run much stronger before the engine gets hot and starts the cook the engine bay though.
