So it sounds like a harder steel bushing would need to be made and be pressed into the rod, and a regular NA bushing would need to be pressed into that? We’re getting complicated, aren’t we. Despite all the talk of doing this it seems no one actually has? Anyone know otherwise?
The Wasilla area.
I see you’re in Delta Junction!? That is the Hinterlands!
I’m sure most folk think ALL of Alaska is the Hinterlands, but Delta Junction is certifiable!
That would be sweet.
For our engines it would take a lot of custom fabrication to be effective, I would think. To have enough cooling area the intake would need to be replaced with a custom plenum (all properly aerodynamic and whatnot) and that space would need filled with water cooled fins...
Thanks asmith.
Any supporting info will be helpful:
Turbo system used (IDIT, banks, etc)?
How does it attach to the intake?
Challenges with setup or sealing?
How much does it interfere with working on other stuff (glow plugs, etc)?
Pics would be awesome, if you have the time.
And thanks for...
That’s basically the way the engine builder described it to me.
There may be other ways too, but I can’t imagine a practical way of spraying an even and complete coat in such a narrow, convoluted and inaccessible area.
Excellent question. My reason for wanting to do this is I bought a prepped block with matching new NA pistons.
Absolutely I would prefer turbo pistons, but that’s another $4-500. After weighing options I’m sticking with these pistons. Unless someone knows a great deal on +.040 turbo pistons...
Good question. There are some that can be added to the coolant of a running engine. I would be concerned about these plugging stuff up like stop-leaks.
I’m more interested in ones that are applied to a bare block (since mine is currently torn apart). An engine builder said one he’s used gets...
Anybody know of an air-water CAC/intercooler being used on an IDI? Or even a 7.3 Powerstroke, since it would be a similar fit. If so, what model cooler and what style turbo setup?
Some of the air-water setups are quite compact and would afford a shorter route from turbo to intake. I would also...
Has anybody coated the interior of their block coolant jacket as added protection against cavitation? There are a number of hard curing sealants that seem like they might help with this problem.
My build project got derailed for a year so I’m having trouble finding some of the products I read...
I have run across many references to bushing turbo con-rods to fit NA pistons, but all in the third person/theoretical. Has anyone done this? Any recommendations on what bushings to use? Hopefully I’m only a couple weeks away from getting this done.
A 2000 will be a WTEC3 control box. I think WTEC is an acronym for World Transmission Electronic Control, or something like that. You might contact Allison to check the compatibility of another generation WTEC programming with yours; they’re up to WTEC5 now. I needed WTEC2 because they use the...
Note the calibration parameters on the TCM stickers, . These are the things ones you’ll want to match up with your own (I.e.-model of transmission, gov rpm...)
This pic shows the TCM (which in this case is mated to a T-handle shifter, mine are divorced). Note the stickers with CIN and the part number.
Just to repeat: use the CIN with the 6spd programming, but the P/N of the actual TCM they will be reprogramming!
To the local Allison dealer in Anchorage. The information requested by the Allison dealer is:
1) the CIN (Calibration Number?) from the 6sp setup. This number is on a sticker attached to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
2) tranny serial # (yours!)
3) TCM part # (yours). Also found on a...
6th gear enabled!! 5/3/2019!
Having failed to locate a reasonably priced TCM with which to experiment, I took a gamble and had my TCM reprogrammed with the identity of a 6sp TCM that seemed a close match: one year age difference, same max rpm, both read rpm off a Throttle Position Sensor. The...
The thicker webs have been referred to in a few places (I also have NOT measured to confirm), as well as the 1/4” oil feed for the turbo; the NA engines use this port for the oil pressure sensor so volume isn’t an issue—unless you add a turbo.
This link shows some core differences in the...
What an Epic trip! Thanks for “taking us along”.
If your performance in school is any indication it seems like seeing more of the world filled the sails of motivation. Most Every person age 20ish would gain a lot from a similar experience. It’s a shame hitchhiking ain’t what it used to be. Not...
That sounds like a sweet rig! I stumbled across mine while shopping for an ambulance. Ambulances are built so well! Aluminum bodies, gobs of electrical options... remind me of the line in “Jurassic Park”— “We spared no expense”. Perfect for a camper conversion.
Am I hijacking my own...
Couple more pics from the trip up from Ohio. First one is just into Canada, 6/14/18, and shows a storm that came with a tornado warning and PELTED MY TRUCK WITH GOLFBALL+ SIZE HAIL:mad:!! Nothing critical was damaged on my IH, but many other vehicles in the area weren’t as fortunate. Google...
And..: Yup! I sure think so. 1995 IH chassis, 250hp P-pump DT466, ~40k miles after the Ohio->Alaska trip. I still can hardly believe I won the auction for it. My hat is off to The Wooster Ohio Fire dept for their excellent care of their equipment.
It was fun to drive up, though I would’ve been...
Absolutely! Montana is hardly anything to sneeze at! As yet I know it only from pics, but look forward to seeing it in person. Bottom line: this planet is beautiful!! Every place I’ve lived or visited has something that lifts me up; But in different ways. Only as a child have I been bored...
Unless you’re allergic to nature and beauty it’s a great place to visit. Late May and June are usually best for summer, March for winter. It’s a land of extremes. Here are some occasional backyard guests
Hike, rest, bomb it!
Hoar frost on the back deck.
Eklutna lake
On the drive up in my...
