Okay, issue solved... don't you love it when instead of the problem being extreme it turns out that you're just incompetent. So while I was installing the turbo kit I used a Cummins flexible oil drain into the CDR hole... turns out I never installed the freeze plug into the hole in the back of...
Okay, so I checked the gasket for the intake snail and it is fit. I tried blocking the intake again and it still runs normal... whenever I rev it I hear a quick whining noise, that I previously thought was a belt or the turbo, but it's something near the rear of the engine.
Hey everyone, so I recently put a H1C on my 6.9 IDI which I mated to the previous factory turbo kit. I hooked up a boost gauge and took it for a drive; sounded great but lacked even a 1 psi. So I take the turbo off and leave just the up pipe and ATS intake snail attached. Then I put my hand over...
That's awesome, I've watched a few of your videos! Didn't you put a Borg Warner S300 or something on your IDI that had a Banks turbo? It hit something crazy, like 20psi!?
I haven't gotten it timed accurately yet, it burns clean and smokes slightly, but black upon hard throttle. If anything it's a an alignment mark past neutral alignment. How much do you recommend turning up a stock pump?
Well mine is a non wastegate H1C and I'm currently at about neutral with my timing and I haven't turned up the pump yet. The turbo whistles, yet isn't pushing since the NA level of fuel. Can't even make over 1 psi on the gauge.
Well it depends, you've got stock headbolts I assume. I would say 12psi is my conservative max on that, others will say up to 15-16psi. I've just finished my H1C build and I haven't yet got a boost guage to see. Even with head studs I don't plan on boosting my engine over 15 psi.
I wouldn't worry too much. It's running on the original pump from 86. I'd get a new fuel filter, add some diesel fuel treatment to it, order some new injectors, and then look at advancing the injector pump a tiny bit. My IDI never used ether and I couldn't tell what the problem was... until I...
Alright, so I bought a crankcase vent from Banks that extends the oil fill out. Currently I've got a heater hose attached to the vent that's basically a RDT. I've heard of people positioning it by the filter and letting it suck in that way or mounting the CDR to the aluminum pipe after the...
I had a similar thing when I bought my 87 6.9. It would be cruising normal at 50-55 and then seemed to actually get more power and then lose it. After replacing the injectors and getting a new injection pump all at once it seemed to have solved the problem.
That's awesome, I've currently got the factory banks downpipe on my custom turbo job. What type of muffler do you guys recommend for a deep note, but way less droning at 55mph+???
Well I took it out and punched a few more holes into it. Now with the H1C and flexible oil drain installed it seems to be draining. I've had no leaks yet... except for a return line, again.
Hey, so after installing my turbo I noticed oil puking from the CDR drain. I poked holes into it before, but it seems to backflow. Are there 2 layers of the splash guard?
The H1C is a T3 and the 18-21cm exhaust housings are considered gutless and low boost on a 1st gen cummins. Many cummins owners swap to a 12-14cm exhaust housing for more boost. So I'm thinking with the extra liter of displacement that it would spool quicker; yet wouldn't overboost due to the...
