The BFG a/t radial is not the tire that used to be. I was also getting really good mileage and performance out of the Firestone transforce.. but not the last two sets.
Cooper Discoverer A/Ts. I've got it set on the company truck and I have had really good luck so far. I am in and out of various drilling sites, awesome out on the road and very good in the mud.
Simply put, it's the the entire design of the diesel engine that you will be forced to build around. My father was a blown alcohol truck puller for many years. I've been inside K Blacks,JP1 and Alan Johnson hemis. My 4bt is built heavier internally than those engines. check out the pressure...
And it will start at 4 degrees. Cycle the glow plugs once, hit the key and she fired right up. Had it up on the rack at the shop, I am shocked at how sturdy these things are built.
Well we took it for a shakedown Cruise. Performance actually surprises me. Good oil pressure and runs cool. Hard to believe a 125 horsepower can put you down the road that well
Thewes, can the non turbo pumps be modified to accept the larger plunger such as used in a 93 6.5 turbo? I think the larger plunger pump was a 4911? I have everything to turbo charge this truck, but these non-turbo pumps must be almost maxed out to get enough fuel.
My truck is a military m1031. They are equipped with a IP that is designed for different viscosity fuels. The military wanted these trucks to be able to run a variety of fuel and also be able to perform in Arctic weather.
My only experience is with the rust converter. It's been on there about 5 or 6 years now and looks really good still. But it sees very little winter driving.
Usually a snow shovel and a broom to sweep them up out of the driveway.I'm in Ohio and they're using the liquid de-icer now. I have resorted to buying winter beaters. I actually got under my truck and scrubbed the frame down and applied the Eastwood's frame product. It has done a good job.
It's almost a crapshoot here in our area when buying parts. Really all we have left is the box stores.. all of our old fashioned part stores are about gone. Our local Napa is way too high priced.
It drove our shop mechanic nuts until he found it. He is starting to get a little fed up with all the ABS/brake problems that we have been having.he stated to me that he will be using nothing but factory parts in the brake systems from now on.
Just a thought.. we have been fighting a truck at work with steering issues, of all things that was a bad brake hose. it was acting as a check valve.Thewes has you going in the right direction as well.
I would look for rust coming out of the u joint caps as a start.Personally,I have bad luck with calipers hanging, seems like I have to replace in pairs.I see where you had one hanging
Dont use peak number as a comparison. Don't get me wrong I love IDI engines, but the powerstroke has much better numbers under the peak. I have towed extensively with both, and most generally over the same routes.average horsepower and torque numbers tell the story far more than the peak as far...
