    Fuel Tank Design

I'm thinking about building a set of saddle tanks that fit outside the frame, and run under the cab from front of the door edge to 20 inches behind the cab, under the bed. I'm thinking mild steel, or aluminum would work OK , but I'm not anywhere near the rust belt/snow/salt/ belt.... For...

    Metric Hell

Something else to give you grief... the bolt head is metric.. so is the thread... if you replace it with a SAE bolt.... it won't fit the thread form and ruin the thing you thread it into.... LOSE/lose situation. Buy a good set of metric tools and live with it. Sorry...

Oil changed / now smokes more

What brand oil did you use? I have problems with my 92 like that with Rotella. Been running the Castrol diesel oil with no problems now for over a year... With Rotella I was getting smoke and using 2 qt in 1200 mi. Switched to Castrol.. no smoke and don't use a drop.... go figure.

Proper way to start 92 7.3 IDI Motor

The term "Flooding a diesel" gives kind of the wrong mental picture. In order for a diesel engine to start it needs to raise the temperature of the compression chamber to the flash point of diesel fuel in the air/fuel charge that is there. The desired way to do that is with the high compression...

Proper way to start 92 7.3 IDI Motor

My 92 F450, 7.3, has a non functioning fast idle. What exactly tells it to activate? Is it tied to engine temp sensor? How and where? Is there a test to see if the fast idle solenoid works by it's self? How do you troubleshoot it? Thanks...

Alternative suggestion: Instead of messing with an engine oil pump and small hoses why not use one of these. :dunno http://www.harborfreight.com/barrel-pump-45743.html Remove the crank handle, replace it with a pully [or go direct drive], hook a small engine [lawn mower size would do...

    03 F350 crew cab 2wd 6.0 auto

I retract my "boat anchor" statement.. at 375.000 miles it's been a good one. Not a bad looking truck, especially for having 375K on it. BTW... is anyone else getting problems with www.oilburners.net ? All day I haven't been able to open the link. Problems with server somewhere? Gives me a...

Sold my boat.. so don't need an anchor... IMHO the only good use for a 6.0 engine.

    Rear tank help needed

Please and thank you... how do you clean the tank selector valve without destroying it? Would it work to pump fuel backward through the selector valve and "wash " the crud out of it in the rear tank path?

    Rear tank help needed

Been there, done that. I'll take the "pull the bed route. AZ has no rust issues, so the bed can be off in 20 min with the forklift. Agreed, on pumping down the tank. I'll do that.

    Rear tank help needed

Don't think I have an air leak, as soon as I switch tanks it picks up fuel and runs fine. If it was sucking air I think I would have to re-prime the system to get air out. Acts more like there is a blockage in the pickup line. Question is "where". The roll over vent is working good, no...

    Rear tank help needed

Driving along normal today and on the rear tank on my 92 F450, 7.3 / ZF5, 212,000 mi on the truck. Suddenly fuel starvation and engine dies, I pull over, switch to front tank, crank and restart. Runs normal. Rear tank is about 1/2 tank down, should be good for another 100 mi at least. I drop...

I presume you are talking about the pickup hose which vacuums the oil out of storage barrels? Best and cheapest I've found is the white flexible plastic [of some kind] swimming pool hose in 1 inch. Home Depot has it in bulk, PVC barbed fittings work fine [warm the hose a little to make it slip...

    DRW/SRW beds???????

Hey, it looks to me like a SRW bed could be easily cut back and the DRW bulkheads tack welded in place to make it into a DRW bed. I'm betting the local Stealership parts book has the DRW sheetmetal part numbers and description. You would spend a few bucks for the bulkhead pieces and need to...

Found it in a local surplus store, used. It's an oil filled gage so I'm sure new it was expensive. I haven't shopped for new ones so can't offer help about who sells them cheap I did see a vac/pressure gage at Harbor Freight in the automotive section for around $20. The limits on that gage as I...

I'm a whole lot better at building stuff than I am at taking pics,, so stand by, I'll try to get you some. Permit??? what is that officer? I'm just a regular citizen not a commercial operator. I respect your concern, where would I go to find the answer to the question you've raised?

Why should I get hassled for having 4 clean 55 gal barrels in the bed of my truck all tied down nicely? BTW... load them to front of bed ahead of rear axle.... Far as I know, there are no "used oil police" in my state. If I spilled them, I would expect to be hit by every 3 letter federal...

I'm using a compressor for a vacuum pump. Harbor freight, on sale, $89, 110 volt, and a cheap made in china 1800 watt generator to run it [small, light, easy to load and carry, uses 1 qt. of gas per hr]. I just took the intake filter off the compressor and screwed a pipe fitting in it's place...

Yes, if you seal up all the exits and it still holds water. Mount a vacuum gage and a pressure gage on it and build yourself one super sucker. If you have an air compressor mounted on the motor of your truck you can tap into both the vacuum [intake side] and the pressure side and suck oil...
