    header flanges are in!

When I see the nice stainless header flanges, all I see is a new set of headers that are made to feed a big fat turbo with nice bends and pipes that connect like the turbo setup on PSD's ... With an intake set that is all tubes and gets rid of the intake hat foolishness. Improve the position...

Found this when I pulled the bottom cover off the transmission

You might find it helpful to google "dual mass flywheel picture". You will find some decent pics of what the insides of a dual mass flywheel look like and instantly understand better what has happened with yours. I tried to copy and paste some, but the pictures weren't covered with diesel oil...

Found this when I pulled the bottom cover off the transmission

The springs in the dual mass flywheel are about 1" &1/4 long, since you have that much free play, they are either gone or crushed into little pieces. Bottom line is, you are running on borrowed time, I believe, so no burnouts and baby it on shifts for the next 11 days then.. Hell.. I drove a...

Found this when I pulled the bottom cover off the transmission

Dual mass flywheel is toast.. Replace it, before it takes out a bunch of other expensive things when it flys apart.

Found this when I pulled the bottom cover off the transmission

I suspect it is now "multi-mass" rather than "dual mass"... and that it is doing a "half-mass job" about now.. With the flywheel cover off, and the wheels chocked so it doesn't roll over you, put it in neutral, then try to move the clutch [back side of dual mass flywheel is bolted to the...

Found this when I pulled the bottom cover off the transmission

Do you have a dual mass flywheel? If you do, there 6 springs between the two flywheel pieces... that looks like a piece of one of those springs. If you have dual mass, I suggest it's time to get a new flywheel.

Mblaney's timing strips.... get em while there hot!!!!

Big Thanks to IdIoit and MBLANEY.. just got my "red hot" timing strips in the mail and they are "way cool". Great piece of work guys, thanks for making it happen. Now to go dial in some diesel horsepower.. right? I've been driving one of my trucks for 7 years now and never checked the...

Fs Dually bed / axle trailer

How much? .. What year is the bed? Does it have a tailgate? What does the other side look like? How complete is the dualie rear end? Are the tires road worthy to tow 800 miles? Center section there or gutted? Got more than one picture?

    Custom turbo questions

The picture on the left is what I'm talking about,,, almost.. it still uses stock exhaust manifolds, which I believe can be improved on for IDI application with a turbo. The turbo location is good for me, and the intake piping comes and goes like I've had in mind.. Notice how nice and tight...

    Custom turbo questions

Strictly from the exhaust flow design standpoint, I don't like the header setup. It is awkward and is full of flow restrictions which make turbulent flow, which robs energy. Also, the up pipes are really a flow disaster, so, from my engineering viewpoint, no thank you. The 99/up PSD flow path...

I like where you are headed... Who is making them? How expensive are they? Stainless is pretty, and cures the rust issue.. but you will wrap them anyway.. right?

    Custom turbo questions

The examples everyone has given serve to make my point. [Thank you to everyone who has posted on this thread, btw] There are two ways to make more boost. 1: Make more heat energy. 1a: This can happen by mashing the go peddle harder... or 1b: By turning up the IP, which gives more fuel...

    newer motors

Everything I know about the later injector and fuel systems says NO NO NO.. Viscosity is a real issue with WMO and WVO .. the new high pressure fuel pump$$$ are sensitive little babies, and the new computer controlled injector$$$ are also. Tank either one and you are out the expense of...

    Custom turbo questions

Good point on the DI/computer control for the PSD, which gives tighter control of injection timing, which makes the PSD 7.3 meet EPA emission controls better... However.. the engine still displaces the same Cubic inches of air flow as the IDI, and makes the same heat energy [very very close...

    Custom turbo questions

Valley pan question. I believe the stock valley pan could be used with a custom intake that was made of a plate for each bank with short tubes welded on, then silicone coupling hoses [short ones] then tubes to go either to the compressor, or intercooler. If designed right, the turbo could be...

    Custom turbo questions

Exactly what my earlier post was about, when I said we are living with design choices driven by what was available in 1985. My suggestion that someone build a set of welding jigs to make exhaust manifolds with up pipes like the 99 and up PSD 7.3 has for IDI's. That would give choices of...
