How to clean a rusty axle

Check in your local area for someone who does "Dustless Blasting".. they can take it down to bare metal in a few minutes. It is not sand blasting as you may know it.. different process.. It REALLY works good. Here is a link to some video of it in operation...

    Need brain(storming)

With new tires, and all the new parts you have just installed, get the front end aligned ASAP. Sounds like the track bar bushings and rubbers have NOT been done yet... check those before alignment. If the track bar bushings allow movement fore and aft, or laterally, like when you hit a bump...

    Better cooling theory

Question: How many rows of tubes does your radiator have? [open radiator cap, insert finger and feel the number of rows, with cold engine, of course] If you are running high temps, I'm betting it's the 3 row radiator... Just guessing.

    Thinking of building a trailer

If you haul cars or trucks with that frame, you will have issues. Camper frames are made light and don't have thick enough beams to carry the weight, plus, the axles are not heavy enough. The trailer beams are 4 inches across the face and likely 14 gage at best. Camper trailers are made light...

Engine serial number that identifies a turbo 7.3?

Thanks to everyone for your answers. What a great bunch here! As said, everything will come clear on tear down. Great tip on checking the turbo oil supply, since the turbo's are already missing, It's a quick visual check to see if the port is 1/4 inch or 1/8 th. That is a deal closer for me...

Engine serial number that identifies a turbo 7.3?

Hey all, Got a chance to pick up 3 trucks [package deal] and two are 7.3, one is 6.9. Both the 7.3 engine trucks have had the turbos pulled off. The engines are all core engine material to be rebuilt. Can I tell from the engine serial number if the 7.3 engines were factory turbo with the...

    7.3 Eating oil

What is wrong with Rotella T is it won't stay in the engine. I'm running 3 trucks now, 2 with 7.3 IDI and one with 6.9 IDI ... I've tried Rotella T in every one of them for multiple oil changes.. In ever case, the truck started losing oil at a high rate.. like from NO oil loss between changes to...

    7.3 Eating oil

Betting you have valve guide seals that are cracked, hard, and not sealing. To suck that much oil through the engine, there has to be a path of least resistance, valve guide seals would provide that. Pull the valve covers and have a look. Rest of engine seems to be working to make power, start...

    E4OD swap in question

I plan to cheat by using my car lift and a transmission jack that's good for 1,200 lb truck and bus transmissions. I'm planning to build a mount table on wheels to lift the jack up to working height so I can do it all standing up under the truck. Getting to old to do transmissions flat on my...

    E4OD swap in question

Thanks to the auto smart folks here, it's now determined I have a E4OD trans in the 92, NOT a C6, which I guessed I had..So life just got a bunch easier. At $300, it's a done deal, install it and drive it like I stole it..

    E4OD swap in question

Good point on that !! Since I'm going to put a fresh job on the engine to clean up PO's abuse and poor maintenance, it's the perfect time to plug in a fresh overhauled trans.. timing is just right.. Trans is still shrink wrapped and plugged from the overhaul, setting on it's own little...

    E4OD swap in question

Hahahha.. yes I do... only question is.. do I have to turn myself in to the police for stealing it at that price or do I get a "Hillary get out of jail free card"? Hate to take undue advantage of anyone, but the guy made the price, I have it in my pocket.. seems like the right deal if it is...

    E4OD swap in question

Thanks to everyone who responded so far. I knew this group had way more details than I did. !. My error.. the 99 and 00 trucks did have the 4R100 ... oops.. Thanks. 2. I may not be correct in the 92 having a C6, apparently.. I'm a manual trans kinda guy, so confess I wouldn't know a C6 if...

    E4OD swap in question

Need to hear from the voices of experience on this please. Just located an E4OD trans from a 97 F250 diesel 2wd for a good price. Before I buy it, what has to be added / done / to make it work in a 92 F 250, 7.3,2wd. that presently has an old and tired C6 trans? I've never done this swap...

    Excessive Coolant Pressure

What you describe is all classic symptoms of a blown head gasket. With the radiator cap off, start the engine.. Do you get bubbles out the top of radiator.. surge of coolant blowing out? If you do, Compression pressure is is leaking into the coolant passages because there is a leak path...

Road trip wreck, need help from you west coast folks

Suggestion: Find a good front end shop that will determine how out of line the front end is, and if there is frame damage. If the frame is tweeked, ask your new best friend, the front end guy who operates a body shop with a frame machine that knows how to use it.. take it there, have the...

Hairbrained idea for cheap timing meter/onboard display

While you are dinking with a crank sensor.. a question. Why not pick up a signal off the Tach drive sensor? It counts RPM which is gear driven directly off the crank. And.. it's already setting in place.
