    Dually Fender needed

That will buff right out... haha.. Fortunately, Ford made these fenders with a lot of flat surfaces, instead of curves like the 99 and up. Pull the fender and make up the Masonite backer boards like I suggested. Mount the fender on a wood buck off of a motor stand so you can work each "flat"...

    Dually Fender needed

First, I ground all the lose fibers and rough breaks down to get a clean surfact to bond to, needs to be "roughed up" to let the epoxy "get a grip". so in one case, I had a bunch of smaller pieces "Clecoed" in position, with empty space between them. I then laid patch strips to fill the gaps as...

    Dually Fender needed

I have rebuilt two sets now, from road damage. Here is my trick. I use 1/4 inch Masonite panels cut to fit the flat panel areas and then use Cleco sheet holders [used in building aircraft and race cars, look them up] to hold the Masonite panels in place as backer for the fiberglass mat layup...

    Bleeding trailer brakes alone?

One man bleeding of hydraulic brakes, my way. I use a cheap [$12 cheap on ebay] electric fuel pump, and cheap clear poly hose from the local Ace hardware. [it's cheap, so get plenty of it, and only use it for one job, brake fluid makes it turn hard, so after the job, pitch it.] Rig up some...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Faulty thinking. I want the fan to come on when thermostat opens and dumps a load of hot coolant into the radiator. With the sensor on bottom hose, cooling system could be 3 gallons low and you still wouldn't have cooling fan on, and making steam.

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Good point. Millions of jap cars run with fan switches that go full on.. or not on... based on coolant temp sensors.. and they have been driven millions of miles with great success.... Why make it complicated?

    Fan clutch upgrade...

OK, but how are you going to grip the insert to spin it out? Thus my thought of an internal torks at the top of the insert. [see pic posted in the thread above by OP] OOPS... just got your post. Hex will work, should have room for a nice big one so you have plenty of area for contact. The...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

How about using two allen head set screws on opposing flats to lock the adapter into place, and EDM a T50 torks into the inside crown of the adapter, so it could be walked out and reused in 200,000 miles when you replace the fan clutch? Long as the set screws are in place the clutch comes off...

    Zf5

The issue is not torque, or lack of it. The issue is being able to creep into position in reverse, like when you are hooking up a trailer or parking one. The lower reverse ratio lets you "walk" the truck into position easier. rather that big jerks and lurches. Even with the diesel ratio ZF5, I...

    Zf5

Doesn't the 460 gas version ZF5 have a lower first / reverse ratio? And, won't those gear sets work in the Diesel version? I forget which data plate # is which is it the 42 Diesel?

Whats do you think,1986, 6.9, f350, 50k original firetruck value?

Just a heads up on the chassis. Very likely, it is a "Cab Chassis" build truck from Ford. The frame aft of the cab is flat, and it has no bed mounts for a standard pickup bed. Also, the spacing on the frame rails is different with that style. I have one that I mounted a standard dually bed on...

    Degas bottle

A shop that has loads of 6.0 experience told me this. EVERY 6.0 engine that came in with a blown head gasket, had a radiator cap that had failed, and the cause for the blown head gasket WAS the bad radiator cap... He explained it this way: Coolant pressure raises the boil point of coolant, so a...

    Reboring old 6.9 block

A bore scope inspection of the block cooling passages would tell you if there is any cavitation. With the block hot tanked and the freeze plugs out... would be a quick thing to look, and put your concerns to rest. As for the cylinder bores.... Just did 8 sleeves on a 6.9 block and took it back...

    Reboring old 6.9 block

I just listened to a long time diesel engine re-builder who said, in his 25 yrs of building engines, every one that had cavitation issues that he tore down also had a failed engine ground strap. Engines with good grounds never had cavitation. That made sense to me, although I have no idea how...

Fuel filler hole vs truck lane nozzles

Thanks for the link. https://www.amazon.com/TDI-Diesel-Fuel-Nozzle-Adapter/dp/B00696Y74O This is almost exactly what I built at the muffler shop... even used a piece of scrap new pipe.... took all of maybe 10 minutes and $5 for the guys time. Only difference in my "redneck adapter" is the...

Fuel filler hole vs truck lane nozzles

Forgot to mention, I made a modification to the adapter pipe to help the tank vent. Took a dull cold chisel and put the pipe in my vice with a block of wood under it. Started at the "skinny end" of the small diameter and put a groove up that part of the pipe with the cold chisel. This shrunk...

Fuel filler hole vs truck lane nozzles

I solved the problem at my local muffler shop. Took a set of calipers to the truck stop and measured the diameter of the semi truck nozzles, then measured the size of the filler neck opening.... Had the muffler shop stretch a piece of exhaust pipe on one end that would let the semi nozzle slide...

    Possible cracked head

If I understand your earlier post, you have white smoke out the exhaust [steam].. that tells me it's NOT a leaking radiator issue.. but a head gasket or cracked head issue... If you add radiator seal.... it will goop up your radiator and speed up the overheat problem... but do nothing to cure...

    Possible cracked head

Depends on how big the leak is, if a section the the head gasket is blown out and you have two cylinders pumping gasses into the cooling system.. it will show up right away. If it's a "little leak" it may take until you get the engine warmed up a little... or to full operation temp... again...

    Possible cracked head

Radiator pressure test will only test if the cooling system will hold pressure. You are losing coolant... quite a lot.. From your description, it has all the hallmarks of blown head gasket... Start the truck, pull off the radiator cap, and watch what happens. If the coolant surges in the...

    Possible cracked head

Do some quick and easy checks first... before you start [cold engine] reach to the bottom of the water pump shaft housing, with your finger. There is a weep hole there that vents any coolant that leaks past the shaft seal. It is kind of hidden by the belt pulley, you can sort of see it from the...

    7.3 idi boat engine?

Might want to reach out to the big boat crowd.. I know there is a "boatload" of them running Detroit Diesels and Cummins [sorry for the pun.. ;)) ] They might have better info on how it was done.. if it ever was.. Remember... B-O-A-T means "Bring Out Another Thousand" so anything can be done...
