    Sending unit

The one link I posted above is listed specific for Ford, from 1978 thru 2010, so to me, it means I don't have to re-invent the wheel to make the sender work. Looks like I should be able to rob the sender, clip the one wire and connect it to the existing connection, adjust the new float arm...

    Sending unit

These folks get my vote for adapting to stock ford unit. http://isspro.mybigcommerce.com/r8927/ Looks like the sending unit it's self can slide up and down the stalk to be adjusted to fit any size tank, or removed and re-mounted on your old broken down Ford sending unit as a replacement...

Electric Lift Pump (Holley?) correct part?

OK.. I'm sold.. now the question, who has the best price on Duralift pump? Where do I get one. Online searches show prices in the over $100 range with shipping... surely there is a better deal somewhere?

    86 f250 6.9 rebuild/refresh advice and questions

Need to ask a thread question: Where do you draw power for an electric pump when you add one? Should be a "key on circuit" right? Where do you tap in and get enough power to run the electric pump without overloading any of the "key on" circuits? Thanks.

OK. How Crazy of an Idea is This...

Now that is a glow plug system that won't swell up.. Hahahahha.. Russians.. what can you say.. they make rednecks look like sissy boys. I don't know how you say "Get`ter Done" in Russian, but they do it.

OK. How Crazy of an Idea is This...

I think this a battle that has been fought many times over the years by folks that operate in the frozen north. The hands down winner of the battle are the diesel fired heaters like Webasco and Espar, simply because of reserve battery power. It takes an ignition source [low current demand to...

ARP STUD INSTALL BLOCK THREAD FAILURE

Perhaps the lesson we can all take away from this piece of bad luck by one of our members is to give the block threads a very good inspection while we are cleaning up everything before re-assembly. The threads are relatively fragile compared to the bolts, considering the load they are under...

ARP STUD INSTALL BLOCK THREAD FAILURE

Ohhhhhhhhhhhh Crap !! Sorry, I didn't catch that on the first read.. Thought it was stud failure.. So, torque pulled the stud out of the block threads .. Hmm .. is it possible you chased the threads with wrong pitch tap? Or.. was the threads in the block damaged to start with from rust or...

ARP STUD INSTALL BLOCK THREAD FAILURE

Is it possible that your torque wrench is out of calibration? Just trying to think outside the box for a bit. The only time I've ever broken a head bolt on assembly was when I was re-using the old head bolts. Clearly, in that case, the bolt had already started to fail because when I recovered...

    Schrader valve alternatives

When I made the suggestion of using a 1/8th inch ball valve, my thought was to also use a remote start on the relay so you could crank the engine and open the ball valve at the same time, then close the ball valve when you got steady no air fuel out of the filter. If you open a ball valve and...

    Schrader valve alternatives

Replace the Schrader valve with a 1/8th inch ball valve.. should work for what you want to do.. On/Off ... Check the thread size, trip to your local hardware store. Remember, if you leave it open when you are not cranking, it will draw air into the fuel system and compound your problems.

    86 f250 6.9 rebuild/refresh advice and questions

The ARP stud set that I bought is specific for 1988-1994 7.3 .... ARP part # 250-4204. Could it be you have a different ARP part number with different spec? It's above my pay grade.. all I know is, when I put these in, torque will be per the instruction sheet that came with them. The...

    86 f250 6.9 rebuild/refresh advice and questions

The instruction sheet that came with my new ARP stud kit says "Torque in 3 equal steps to 125 ft lbs with ARP Ultra-Torque Lubricant." FWIW.

    Head Studs

Since I just received my box of ARP studs with instruction sheet, I'll chime in. it says: **************** Note: ARP Ultra-Torque Fastener Assembly Lubricant has been specifically designed to reduce tension preload scatter and eliminate the need to cycle high performance engine fasteners...

    Head Studs

I used to do tensile strength testing when I worked for an aerospace company. To yield results you tension the test sample to failure and observe what pressure the material reaches the yield point. Not practical for used studs, or bolts, I think. It requires the destruction of the test...

    Head Studs

I just today received the ARP stud set I ordered from AllensFasteners at $475.00... They are specific according to the box and ARP listing for 88 to 94 7.3 engine. Looks like I paid a bit more for that feature. Looking at them, they sure look good, came with the little tube of special "ARP"...

    GV over/underdrive on a 4x4?

I don't think anyone makes an add on overdrive that you can use in 4x4 operation. There is one that fits in front of the transmission [sorry, can't think of the name] but I recall they are rare as hens teeth. Since 4x4 can't be used on hard surface anyway, I can't see an advantage to...

    GV over/underdrive on a 4x4?

Well then... I am really glad to find that someone else has the divorced GV setup and that it's worked well. Of course since it's Mel, I know it's lived a well cared for life, as will mine. The "new" truck I just bought, which has blown curb side head gasket is a 92 Crew Cab, 7.3, Sidwinder...

    GV over/underdrive on a 4x4?

I have a Gear Vendors with an adapter that makes it mount in place of the carrier bearing. It doesn't bolt to the transmission or transfer case. Seems I may have the only "divorced" GV unit in existence, since I've never seen another like it. Talked to GV when I bought it some years ago...

    Is my Blocks Life Over?

At this point, with a block that has already been bored .30 oversize, with surface issues, and the cost of sleeve repair by a competent machine shop.. I would drive toward finding a good used block that needed bored first time to .10 over.. or just honed. I think the cost would be less than...

    battery cable question

I've found my local welding supply is a better source for heavy gage fine wire cable with a good heavy insulation that is made to take heat and abuse. The fine wire copper is better at transmitting 12 volt DC current. If you use the right tool to stake crimp the lugs on, coat the connection...

Do i need a new ignition switch???

The picture of the relay oldbull8 posted is what you "should" have on your truck. I suggest that you may have the wrong relay installed and that could be the source of your problem. What the previous owner / "electrical genius" has changed to get the one you have is a mystery to me.. but I...

Do i need a new ignition switch???

Disconnect the wire that comes from your ignition switch at the solenoid. Then connect the battery cable for a moment. If it cranks, your solenoid has failed in the closed position. While you have that wire disconnected, disconnect the wire that goes to the starter. It will be about a...

    battery cable question

Solder them if you want. The weld cable lugs have a small hole in the front [most of them] to float solder in. I've been running them for 7 years now, with no issues. I do keep the lugs clean, bright, and tight. Way easier to pull the cables and pull the batteries now. I use anti corrosion...
