6.0L engines have an oil rail and they do not use a high pressure fuel pump. Pressure is delivered by an "intensifier piston" using engine oil as hydraulic fluid.
It still sounds like an injector though. You might be able to tell which one with an IR heat gun - shoot the exhaust manifold...
This doen't satisfy the PCM for a 2005 year model. It knows all of the expected air flows and system pressures, etc., so it still will think something is wrong. If you delete the EGR system, you really neeed a tuner.
Sometimes the issue w/ a frequent WIF light is corrosion and or sludge build up in the HFCM cover plate. It can be cleaned sometimes, other times it is bad enough it needs to be replaced.
Stiction
There is a small spool valve in the top of the injector that controls the flow of high oil pressure fed to the intensifier piston in the fuel injector. That spool valve only moves .017", back and forth, on and off every time the injector fires. Many factors play in to how well that...
An EGR cooler hose is not a big deal. I wouldn't give up on a truck just for that - it really isn't an issue any bigger than batteries needing to be replaced after 4 years.
Also - because it is a VGT (variable guide vanes on the turbine side) you do not have a waste gate. Any excess flow/pressure will "back flow" out the air inlet.
