    03 6.0 ficm questions

Where did you buy the FICM? They come flashed (programmed) from Ford (and most other places as well). They do not need to be specifically programmed to your engine.

    Low pressure oil delay

When looking at the ICP, you have to look at BOTH ICP pressure and ICP voltage. A cranking value of around 1200 psig from the ICP sensor can be a default number. The ICP sensor voltage PID will tell you the story there. Cranking ICP pressure is usually 800 to 1000 and the IPR is usually...

    Injector replacement

There is a lot of confusion on that. I think that it came mainly from a DieselTechRon video. He stated that the 04.5 and up had the STC fitting. One mistake out of all his incredible help - not bad!!

    Injector replacement

fyi - none of the 04's had the failure prone stc fitting. Only 05 and up.

    Long time no visit!

It is nice to hear from long time owners like yourself! These trucks CAN BE reliable (but it does take a little work and knowledge), and your experience is a good indicator of that!

    Long time no visit!

A few comments - Larger head bolts were never installed (it was ONLY the alignment dowel size that was increased). Studs are required. I guess they could have designed it to have MORE head bolts. That certainly would have helped! The late 04 and up EGR cooler was an issue because it needed...

    Low pressure oil delay

As mentioned above, also pull out the oil filter and disconnect the turbo oil drain to listen at those points as well.

    Low pressure oil delay

I don't think a "high side" high-pressure-oil system leak would drop the base oil pressure to the extent he describes. It is more often found to be an HPOP suction side leak. That said, I guess anything is possible. +1 on an air test.

    Low pressure oil delay

If it is your HPOP, and that is what I am thinking it is, I would HIGHLY recommend the pump from Dieselsite. I would get the stock capacity Adrenaline pump. It is expensive, but worth it. There have just been a lot of 03 and 04 HPOP failures lately (OEM ones and the parts store ones). The...

    Low pressure oil delay

I would sure be thinking about the HPOP. The pressed in ball bearing can pop out and the HPOP will suck down the low pressure oil pressure. Before going to that extent though, be sure to pull, inspect, and clean the regulator on the low pressure oil (it is by the harmonic balancer). You...

    Low pressure oil delay

Remind me please - what year engine do you have? Do you have an OEM oil filter cap and an OEM oil filter installed?

New to the 6.0 have injector issues.

Just an fyi ...... The logic board in the FICM can fail. It can only be tested by one or two companies (simply looking at voltage means nothing when it comes to the performance of the logic board). Are you going to install ARP head studs also? Be sure the heads are flat and not cracked...

New to the 6.0 have injector issues.

BulletProofDiesel makes a replacement EGR cooler for the 05 and up model years. It is a HIGHLY recommended upgrade. It is not straightforward distinguishing between EGR cooler failures and head gasket failures when a cooling system "over-pressure" has been experienced. IMO you need to remove...

    Dummy Plugs Leaking

Could be that you just need to drive it to work the air out. If you suspect a leak in the high pressure oil system, you can watch some of the videos in the Google search link below...

    6.0 Powerstroke leaking Degas bottle

Make sure the cap sealing surface is smooth and level. Beyond that, put a pressure gauge on the degas bottle (tee one into the vent line off of the radiator). That will tell you if the coolant system is over-pressuring.

    2003 oil rails

Would you please post a pic of the end plug that shows the sealing area, and also post the hex head size?

    2003 oil rails

It would probably help quite a few folks if you could take an old end plug to a dealership and compare it with part # 4C3Z-6026-CA

    2003 oil rails

I have been told that the 7.3L ones will work for the end plugs, but I haven't confirmed it for myself yet (seems too easy, but maybe it is true). Part # 4C3Z-6026-CA : http://www.dieselorings.com/15-007-oil-rail-end-plugs-uvc-cylinder-heads.html...

Possible 05 6.0 purchase need advice

You really need a monitor for reading engine parameters. It can save you thousands. ForScan (a phone app) and an ELM327 OBDII adapter can cost under $40. 1st thing to check is the oil and coolant temperature differential. Then you need to find out what your fuel pressure is. It must be over...

Possible 05 6.0 purchase need advice

Ford still sells Mercon SP - which will work (it was the original spec fluid). Also, Valvoline Maxlife has proven itself to work fine also. What injectors were put in it, OEM? From a dealership?

6.0 making oil help!!! Not injectors

Pure Power is again making new 6.0L injectors. Buying non-OEM injectors on line is a recipe for failure IMO. https://www.accuratediesel.com/6-0l-powerstroke-injector-brand-new-not-remanufactured.html PurePower Technologies started in 1999 as a joint venture between Siemens and Navistar to...

Hoping for an answer that makes sense: blowing white smoke

A leaky injector seal will NOT "pull coolant" on the 6.0L. Sometimes a bad injector can result in white smoke, but it will be diesel fuel, not coolant. I have added on a coolant pressure gauge so that I can monitor the pressure in the degas bottle (as Crawler mentions above). It helps you...
