Where to get an original starter rebuilt?

I have a spare 2000 7.3 starter that needs rebuilding. The local rebuilder doesn't have a good reputation. Does the forum have a favorite rebuilder to recommend? My understanding is that the OE starter is stronger than the chinesium replacements in parts stores now.

How to find out what tunes I have?

Adjust the TPS? We've replaced a couple, I didn't see an adjustment method. Must be a trick to learn here ... please explain. The tuning is OK, a few more horses is a few more grins. The throttle touchiness is my only complaint. I wish that canned tune also modified shifting, as Gearhead...

How to find out what tunes I have?

I just picked up an 03 F350 cclb drw 4x4 7.3 PSD after waiting on the PO for 7 months, who was in turn waiting on his new 2022 Furd. He mentioned that it has a 60hp tune but didn't know more. It's not a Hydra, it's canned tunes that were installed, then the tuner unplugged by the shop. That's...

Fuel filter mod to run taller filter that's less expensive.

That one is a Donaldson from the tractor store. 12 microns. Low enough? Guy who bought a C6 off me yesterday sent me that pic.

Fuel filter mod to run taller filter that's less expensive.

Anybody running this kind of mod? Simple as heck, this guy just used a small sheet of diamond plate.

7.3 flywheel bolt snapped on install, NAPA and RockAuto list different bolt

I managed to get some bolts at NAPA, matching them up the old fashioned way.

    IDI block = IDIT block

Didn't I read somewhere that the TIDI flywheel is heavier? Gottta search the folds of my brain...no, it's too late.

7.3 flywheel bolt snapped on install, NAPA and RockAuto list different bolt

Nasty surprise bolting on the flywheel. The first bolt we tried to torque, at 30 ftlbs, stretched then broke. NAPA doesn't have any in stock. Has anybody had this kind of issue? The remaining 8 flywheel bolts sound like hardened steel when dropped on concrete. They ring. The one that broke...

    IDI block = IDIT block

Somewhere a feminististist is raging. Who could not like tidis? Back to mechanics. So you say the guys at the other shops are wrong, OK. But I'm tired of looking for a TIDI block and I'm going to make my own. It sounds like only the larger oil galleys will be missing from my mongrel TIDI...

    IDI block = IDIT block

If you have an IDI block you can make it into an IDIT easily. The blocks are the same. Only the rods, wrist pins and pistons are specific to the turbo. I'm not sure about the crank. Both have under-piston oil cooling. There are stories on the internet about webbing in the casting being...

Which is correct sleeve for 93 7.3 IDI harmonic damper seal?

OK guys nobody answered but I found the right one. Parts supply chain is messed up by the deadly cooties virus, so NAPA could not get me one. I was at a dead end with wrong parts from fleabay and amazon. One happened to fit the back crank seal and we needed that so it was a blessing. The other...

    Is HPOP failure always sudden?

We've had 3 fail on us now, 3 different trucks. Both of the 7.3 trucks had recent reman Ford HPOPs in there. Both failed, one within a month, one in a year. The 3rd fail was in a 6.0 and we don't know what pump it was, came with the truck. Anyway, it's interesting that every time it was sudden...

Will a GTP38R lower my towing EGTs?

I looked into the KC300x turbos a bit. It sure looks like a much better deal than the 38R. Also, KC will rebuild your turbo if needed, and offers a warranty. Garret otoh is a huge corporation, and we all know what that means for customer service. Thanks for putting me on the right path.

Will a GTP38R lower my towing EGTs?

I think I saw KC Turbos out on FTE last year, and the KC guy answered guys' questions right in the forum, iirc. Are they in this forum too? I found their website and their 7.3 tow pack (only $2900) which is a lot like I setup my truck, except for the turbo. Interesting... I don't go fast with...

Will a GTP38R lower my towing EGTs?

I tow DOT with an E99 F550 that we upgraded to L99 with turbo, manifold, pedestal and Riffraff stuff like bellows up pipes and their plenums. EGPV is gone and it's 4" all the way back to side dump behind the cab, no muffler just a fake converter welded on the outside of the straight pipe in case...

Which is correct sleeve for 93 7.3 IDI harmonic damper seal?

We want a sleeve on the harmonic damper because the previous seal has worn a groove into it. The damper is 2.5" diameter, and we have the new seal SKF 24984 which is the correct size, but not the sleeve. NAPA said it would take weeks to get one. My local machine shop suggested Microsleeve...

Finding an engine stand for an IDI, not easy

I looked at all the stands on fleabay and most seemed to be the exact same chinesium, sold under different labels. Similar story on Amazon but less (fake) choices. Only a couple of them on fleabay had the unloaded-angle-up feature that you mentioned. It sure makes sense. Right now I have an...

Never thought of that. Makes sense. Have welders for sure but stock is hard to come by recently.

Finding an engine stand for an IDI, not easy

I've been reading reviews of supposed 2000 lb engine stands on Amazon and fleabay. Most nobody likes them. They won't spin. They bend down. The arms bend. And that's with a Chevy big block on there, barely 700 lbs. An IDI weighs more like 950 iirc. We have an IDI on a stand right now and had to...

    New engine, No power

How did you find that engine? I've been looking for an IDIT truck for a few months. As soon as one pops up for sale, it's gone. We find IDIs pretty easily, but not turbos. I thought that companies that sell reman engines might sell them, but they just laugh cruelly when I ask about an IDIT. The...

    New engine, No power

I see that solenoid on 2 of our IDIs but don't see it connected to the IP at all. It just raises the idle by holding the accel open a little. Can you post a diagram of how it is supposed to change IP timing too? Perhaps some PO monkeyed with the linkage on our IDIs. There is one local mechanic...

New here, looking for a truck

Welcome to the forum. We've found a couple Ford diesels for less than $1k, bought them for parts but they started up so we decided to fix them. Here's one. It just takes time, patience, a good car hauler trailer, and cash ready to go. I got this one for $771, the tires and fan belts are rotten...

    Howdy from Texas

We have about a dozen diesel Fords. 6 are parts trucks, I think. We like the late IDIs and early PSDs. I own one 6.0 but it will be sold as soon as I find another good 7.3 to replace it. Sold my fancy new 6.7 aluminum truck before the warranty was up, after we found it already starting to sweat...

    Twin Turbo setup 7.3idi

I'm afraid you'll get a lot of turbo lag that far back, and lose heat in the run of pipe under your crew cab. Heat expands any gas, which is why hot exhaust makes your turbo spin faster than cool exhaust. Consider the Ford Scorpion motor with its turbo right in the V next the the exhaust ports...
