We’ve heard a lot about these db2 pumps having heat soak issues. Thanks for taking one apart so we can see what it actually looks like from the inside. That thing is worn pretty bad.
Never had it happen to me, but have seen it happen on other engines, especially 2 strokes.
I think the open end of the clip is supposed to face either up or down, not side to side.
Yeah this thread should have been cancelled a long time ago to prevent people from doing this to their trucks.
Why the hell would it be a good idea to cut up the crossmember to put a larger oil filter that does nothing for your engine :dunno. All that does is introduce new cracking areas to...
Don’t bother with anything other than pulling that engine out. Sounds like it’s time for a rebuild. I wouldn’t run it any more, as it may scatter a connecting rod out the block, turning that engine into a 1K boat anchor.
You might also need a new crank and a con rod. That noise sounds like it’s...
Where did you get this info from? And let’s hear about the engines that got messed up with a turbo added on them....
Any stock 6.9 (studded) or 7.3 idi will handle a turbo just fine. If one of these engines got “messed up” because of a turbo, it’s because the owner of the truck is a moron and...
Your transfer case isn’t going to care what type of fluid you put in it.
Cheap supertech atf will work just fine, and is readily available at your local Walmart.
As long as they deck the heads within the given specs, it’ll be fine. Same with the valves and seats. Make sure they follow specs, as it’s very important especially with these idi cylinder heads.
Hmm that looked like a crack but your magnafying glass pic confirms it’s not. Good news.
Yes, replace all seals & gaskets if you can. Much easier to do it now rather than later.
You can remove bearings from rod & caps. Won’t hurt anything if you do that. You can surely reuse them if they are in good shape as well.
Cracks on pistons is something I have never trusted even though some will probably think it’s not a big deal. They take a lot of constant pressure and heat...
I zoomed in to check out those pistons. Looks like glowplug tips did some damage to that engine, putting cracks in the piston tops. I had to zoom waaay in but I can spot a crack.
No bueno
Good thing that bolt came out easy. Could have been a lot worse.
Bet you the rebuilder overtorqued all the head studs on that engine, making them all junk and prone to breaking at some point. There’s a reason why there is a torque limit on all bolts but some think it’s better to overtorque them...
Nice truck. As far as price goes, it really depends on where your at. Seems to vary quite a bit depending on the state and how close you are to the rust belt.
It’s also hard to believe a 35 year old truck has 51k on it. Too bad these trucks don’t have 6 digit odometers on them. I bet it’s...
15w-40 will do just fine in an old outdated idi diesel with loose tolerances....unless you live in an area that regularly sees below 0 temps.
Use anything oil besides Rotella and your engine will be happy.
When your engine requires Lucas oil stabilizer to control excessive oil consumption...
Sounds about right to me. You might see slightly higher temps with the C6. Really depends on if you have a good oil cooler attached to it. They usually run a little hotter because torque converter never locks up.
Good rule of thumb is when your egt’s get high, drop a gear and wind the hell out...
Not sure why your still confused on this. Many members including myself have mentioned that your engine needs more fuel if you want more turbo psi. Reread entire thread. Everything you have mentioned points me to say the ip isn’t putting out enough juice.
A 3 inch dp will really help with lag &...
