If you had to add oil to the fan clutch, it is likely leaking and will again at some point. Cheap insurance would be to buy a new one unless you somehow installed new seals in your old one.
If your cooling system is up to par, these engines will run spot on @ 190-195 empty all day long with a/c...
Sounds like you replaced a junk IP with another junk IP. Going the cheap route will just cause a bigger headache in the long run. If you have the funds, buy a rebuilt IP from Conestoga diesel or Russ aka typ4 and it'll run better than the day it rolled off the assembly line. It's always a good...
I would go with the stanadynes on eBay that are brand new. I bought a set for my rig and they performed much better than the delphis.
Wasn't too impressed with my set of delphis after 4 of them were pretty much junk & needed to be rebuilt after 10k miles.
Can't beat this price...
The consensus is felpro & VR gaskets are pretty much the best & most readily available. Gasket construction & design have come a long ways compared to what these engines originally came with. I wouldn't be too concerned about which brand you go with. I had felpros in my engine and never had a...
I had a similar issue with a 3010 John Deere that I recently acquired for work. It would start cold but engine was just plain lazy. It has 10k hours on the odometer but engine & fuel system had recently been overhauled, with reman badge nice n shiny on the pump.
After about an hour of running...
.020 over on a 7.3 idi has been done many times, but I would never trust it even if block showed no signs of cavitation. Just my opinion on that one tho.
Timing is very crucial on how these engines run & heat up. Sounds like your pushing the engine on what it can reliably handle. These engines...
The fan shroud on these engines is very important. It helps direct the airflow from outside air thru the radiator. Without it, the fan won't be able to pull air thru the radiator fins efficiently.
It also acts as a safety shroud for when your working underneath hood with engine running. These...
Likely your compressor is shot. And if it blew, you will have to replace orfice tube, drier, & flush out the entire a/c system.
An auto shop will cost you an arm & a leg to get your a/c back up and running. It's best to source parts yourself & install them. That way all you have to have shop do...
That stuff is scary when it happens. I had a fuel pressure gauge in place of the schrader valve on the filter head on my rig. Driving up to Chico, I kept smelling diesel fuel. Looked in the mirror and I was smoking real bad up near Gridley. Pulled over and popped the hood to find the gauge had...
You can lock n stitch that crack if you got a shop that knows how to do it well. I had to use that method with my engine and it worked well, since that was my only option. Finding a used "crack free" cylinder head is impossible with these engines.
Mine was doing the same thing. Turned out there was way too much pag oil in system and the orfice tube was crudded up. Replaced that and refilled system with proper amount of R134A made a huge difference.
Your supposed to replace the ac drier every time you open the system up from what I've...
Before you go any further, I would strongly suggest that you get that block & cylinder heads magnafluxed. If everything checks out ok, proceed with a rebuild.
Haha I wish I could have seen a vid of what actually happened. The guy behind me said it looked like a huge plume of fire coming from the back of it. Guess it was the combination of hot transmission oil, radiator fan feeding air & hot exhaust header caused that to happen lol.
Just wanted to say thank you to Brian aka Idioit, for coming to my rescue today.
I was headed to his house this morning to have him weld on a shock mount bracket for my Jeep when it broke down on hwy 12. The transmission line going to radiator failed causing a fire that luckily put itself out...
I log on over 50k on my 6.7 annually, so I'm pretty familiar with my rig. I certainly know when Cali switches from winter to summer blended diesel fuel. My mpg shoots down by almost 2 miles and engine is noticeably quieter. Performance is down as well.
I can narrow it down to the day when they...
Yes. Sometimes fresh injectors will cause an old IP to struggle with making enough pressure for injectors to pop fuel into cylinders. It's always best to replace both units if funds allow. You will see the greatest benefit by doing so.
In that case, do what you can to keep er going. Engine work can add up quickly as we all know.
Good idea to pressure wash all the gunk off of the engine. Maybe even try using dye in the engine oil if you can't find the leak.
You replaced the head gasket? As in just one side?
Your valve stem seals are probably shot as well, probably accounting for the unusually high oil consumption. And yes, it's always a good idea to get the heads checked out and rebuild if needed. Or at the very least, make sure cylinder head...
