You won’t find any pinholes in a 6.9 block bored .020 over. Haven’t heard of anyone having cavitation problems with a 6.9 block. They are stout. You got plenty more meat on the bone to rebuild that engine.
If I recall correctly, a stock 6.9 block would have to be bored out 120-140 thousandths...
If your parking brake sets to the floor, this is a sure indicator that your rear brake shoes are out of adjustment.
Fully pressed, the emergency brake should go about halfway down.
I used good old Walmart supertech 15w-40 in my idi when I had it. Seemed to be a really good oil, and currently run supertech synthetic oils in all my vehicles.
Like already mentioned, these engines burn rotella oil somewhat quickly so I would use anything other than that.
Yes I used them in my rebuild. You can also call & make sure your getting the right ones. If I recall, they were way cheaper than anyone else for a set. Quality is damn good as well.
Nice truck you’ll be happy with that engine and transmission combination. A farmer I know has about 550k on his 7.3 powerstroke. No major repairs to this day.
Keep a spare cam position sensor with you at all times. They tend to go out periodically and at the wrong place & time.
Mine has the manual shift lever on the floor. I’m sure it’s different than an idi transfer case, but they all do the same damn thing.....or their supposed to lol
Since we are on the subject, what causes a transfer case to not go into 4lo? Last week I tried to get my 6.7 into 4lo and that sob would not go into that gear. Only 4hi and neutral.
Something must be all haywire in there, just don’t know what.
I smell a little bullshit here. So they saw smoke coming from truck and then THEIR hired mechanic says everything is ok huh.
It’ll probably be a rude awaking when you get it running sorry to say
My votes on champion radiators. Ran 2 so far (1 in 87 f250 & 1 in jeep yj).
Quality seems very good and price is even better. Haven’t had an overheating issue with either vehicle.
People also swear by Rodney red radiators. But the price is high, typically more than what these rigs are worth lol.
Those air filter sensors are damn near useless. The shop i go for oil changes to used to base air filter replacement on that sensor when I would bring my 6.7 psd in for service. The sensor read good so they wouldn’t change filter. Then one day noticed a serious lack of power. Took airfilter off...
Personally, I wouldn’t bother with an oil analysis unless I was running super extended oil change intervals.
They are good at getting a guy all worked up because his engine is wearing too quickly lol.
If your really concerned about it, run two quarts of marvel mystery oil in engine about 500...
