    early 6.9 piston cooling nozzles?

Seems like it wouldn't be hard to fabricate replacement ones though - Take a set of bolt in ones and machine the body or sleeve and machine to the correct body od for the press in type. Good reason to update to a later block given a chance to.

    Steering gearbox return line questions

I think he means F-superduty as in the early F-450. (87-9x) Completely different than the superduty line. (99+) The f-superduty setup is a bolt in mod on the smaller trucks, except for the brake petal pin location (and the petal can be swapped easily if you find one) and on 80-86 trucks a...

Thinking long and hard about an hx35 swap

HX35 is fine. I'm running the 12 cc housing, stock WG setting of ~20 psi and have no issues. Good spool, good low end boost, no high egt issues. I'm running a air/water intercooler but even without that egts weren't that high. With it I rarely see over 950* pre turbo. I've towed up to 21k GCW...

    dne2

2wd T-18/19 uses a different DNE box than a 4wd/c6. They have a female/male adapter shaft that bolts onto the end of the t-18/19 output shaft and then the input to the DNE is a **32** spline, I **believe** the same as a chevy 32 spline. All the other Ford boxes are 31 spline. I think they did...

I'd bet grounding issues somehow. Dirty ground or bad wiring.

    early 6.9 piston cooling nozzles?

When I did my motor around 2008, I got the nozzles from IH IIRC. Something like $30/ea too. Cost more for those 8 bloody bits of brass then getting the crank turned and new bearings!! The tool is essentially a punch with a slot cut in the end to clear the nozzle - it bears against the flat...

    Steering gearbox return line questions

True, there is some work needed on the Ford unit, but not much and it's all well documented. The petal mod is easy, cut off the old pin, drill about 3/4" further up and install a new pin. A grade 5 bolt works well. Also a good time to put a bronze bushing on instead of the stock plastic pos, and...

Looking for Input on boring 6.9 to 7.3

I believe that typ4 on this site has SS valves for the IDI, and they're reasonably priced. That being said, I am not convinced that SS is the best material for a valve. It is quite hard and corrosion resistant, but it also has significantly lower thermal conductivity than carbon steel, which...

    Banks sidewinder upgrades

The turbo flange is a standard T3, so many other turbos will fit. This is probably the easiest way to go rather than mess with a turbo wheel upgrade. I don't think there really are any upgrades for the turbo, and even if there were, they'd likely be pricey, you'd need to tear the turbo part way...

    Steering gearbox return line questions

Why not get a reman ford hydro so it's all bolt up and you know it's speced right? IIRC, a reman hydro unit is only about $100-150 off rock auto. Not sure where you're getting the chevy unit, but by the time you get that and hoses and monkey around trying to get everything to fit it seems like...

    93' IDI vs PSD

If I read that right the question is whether to turbo the existing idi motor or swap for a PSD? Or are you asking whether to get a idi or psd truck? Swapping motors will likely be a fair bit of work - I think the motor is a pretty direct bolt in, but electrical and fuel systems will likely...

could this be anything but the transfer case??

Ah, I see. Makes sense. Still more likely to be a failure mode if one uses 4wd frequently, but yes. Point is that the oil pump design in these cases is poor.

could this be anything but the transfer case??

Odd, I've never really heard of chain failures being a major problem. More common seems to be mechanical failures as a result of oil starvation. The chain is only loaded when in 4wd and only as much load as is applied on the front wheels, so it seems like it's unlikely to be loaded that badly...

could this be anything but the transfer case??

Glad to hear that's what it was. If it's not too late might be a good time to thrown a clutch and rear main in. If the trans is off that's 95% of the work.... Also probably be worth looking into the t-case pump mods that are out there to keep it from happening again. Not clear if it's a...

    Powerstroke electric vacuum pump.

Pretty sure I used a superduty one - IIRC I bought a reman one off rockauto for something like $40. They're cheap enough it just makes sense.

    Engine storage

I have a set of brackets (nothing more than an angled plate welded on each end of a ~6" piece of tubing with holes in one plate) that fit the motor mounts and let you set a motor on the ground level. Some will say that setting an idi on the pan is a bad idea due to the potential to collapse the...

Looking for Input on boring 6.9 to 7.3

Okay, perhaps I should reword. Max boost has a very direct relationship with cylinder pressure when you assume that sufficient fuel is supplied for complete combustion. Yes, high boost without fuel isn't going to raise pressures much, (ie 20 psi with a stock pump) but neither is overfueling...

could this be anything but the transfer case??

I agree, makes no real sense, although stranger things have happened. The mechanism I could see is a crack existing that holds on load one way but finally snaps due to the reverse load - even though it's a low low, the shift in direction could cause it to break. Low probability but possible...

could this be anything but the transfer case??

I had a t-case die and cause a complete loss of drive like that, but mine was a bit noisier. Happened on a trip to norcal (from San Diego) running up I-5 on the flat valley section pulling an empty 2H trailer (~3500#). First sign I had was the truck seeming to suddenly be in neutral and rolling...

Looking for Input on boring 6.9 to 7.3

They may look nice, but they're no reason to need them. I strongly doubt you'll see more than a fractional HP improvement from them. These engines don't run high enough rpm for it to matter that much. Aside from the early aluminum pivot rockers, the stock rockers show no evidence of wear...

Looking for Input on boring 6.9 to 7.3

Where does this number come from? This is going to be dependent on the thread lubricant used. Using the frictional value for 'lubricated threads' I get a torque of 118 ft-lb. I come up with ~80 using certain low friction moly anti-sieze numbers. But, the more important part is that the...

    Need a favor from someone.

Agreed. Different cases/axles will be a bit different, and who knows if the measurement you get is actually accurate? Not saying folks here would mess it up, but there's certainly room for error. Also going to have differences based on how much load is on it when you measure. Might be that the...

    RDT delete.

I'd be concerned about back pressure - you're crankcase pressure is now going to be at least somewhat above atmospheric - exhaust back pressure will be at least a bit, plus the pressure drop across the check valve. Depending on the check valve, amount of blow by, and how free flowing the exhaust...

How does fuel thickness affect timing?

Well, thicker oil is going to be harder to inject which means the actual injection / ignition may be a little bit later, but thicker fuel is also going to cause the internal pump pressure to be higher, which will advance the timing. Pump timing works off pump pressure, which is a function of the...

    Turbo Option Opinions

Banks may have more of a reputation, but I've never heard anything really bad about hypermax. I'd say that either one should work fine.
