    Hypermax Turbo and Intercooler

Interesting, did not see that he had it posted for sale. Interesting that he says nothing about it in the marketplace listing but it all over how awesome it is in the threads he posts in.... **and fails to mention it's his system** TOS violation? Seems like it to me. Not one to be a dick...

Mechanical fan vs. electric conversion....real numbers to compare

The 50+ HP claims are somewhat inflated. I did some numbers at one point and came up with a max of ~5 hp for the IDI mechanical fan. It also moves something like 15k cfm IIRC - hard to beat with an electric. I've long said that the power and mileage loss with the mechanical fan is far less...

    Hypermax Turbo and Intercooler

This the 2nd thread JJC has posted that link - possible he's some sort of scammer trying to sell his ebay stuff. Have reported said to the mods for a closer look. Nothing personal, but I get a suspicious vibe.

Mileage numbers for c6 to e4od swap?

Doubt the lockup converter would make more than a 1 mpg difference. C6 / T-19 to E4OD / ZF is adding an od and lockup converter, so it would be different numbers. OP is asking about C6 + DNE vs E4OD, where the only real difference is lockup vs non. Honestly I doubt it's economically...

    Best Turbocharging Options for IDI's

I will agree that all seem about equally difficult to work on and experience is important, but that's no reason to be insulting... please remember that we try to maintain a civil respectful forum. Also worth remembering that there's a learning curve for everyone and that removing an old rusty...

    Best Turbocharging Options for IDI's

HX35 works well, though you'd want to drop the CR a bit to use it IMHO. Not sure what pipe/mount setup would work best though - mine is all custom fab. Also worth noting whether you're looking for a turbo for a stock motor or one that's been decked to lower the CR - if you're looking for a...

    HELP: 7.3L IDI won't rotate 360 deg.

Pull the motor. If the crank moves and piston doesn't you've got a piston or rod that isn't in one piece anymore.... There's no real way I can think of where that would happen without causing significant damage to the cylinder - ie you'll need block machine work. Beats me how it didn't punch...

    HELP: 7.3L IDI won't rotate 360 deg.

Doubt you'll really be able to id the cylinder, and it's not much more work to just do both. I'd start with just one, 50/50 chance of finding the problem, and a decent chance that once you find that you'll wind up needing a new motor which means there woln't be a need to pull the other head...

    HELP: 7.3L IDI won't rotate 360 deg.

Rockers not moving doesn't mean anything - likely both valves are on the low spot on the cam and the 7/8 turn you can get isn't enough to move either cam onto the lobe. Pull the heads and check it out. Could be any number of things, likely will need major engine work but could be as simple...

    Vac pump delete ideas

Not hard to do. You can wire it up to only come on when the HVAC is on - tap the fan wires to run a relay. I used a pump out of a late 80's Volvo 760 Turbo which has a built in control system. Could use the amazon one, or go junkyard hunting. There's a fair number of volvos that use a small...

    Relocating Washer and Coolant resivoir

True to a degree, but it still matters I think - when it cools off it has to pull coolant back into the system, which works best when it's at nearly the same level. I don't know for certain, but I would expect it to have trouble if you lowered it too much. Every engine I've ever seen has the...

    Disecting a Vacuum Pump

Not sure anyone knows - they're not supposed to be serviceable from what I've seen. If you do get it apart I'm not sure you'll be able to find much in the way of parts. Bearing are probably standard industrial units, but that's not usually a failure point from what I've seen.

    Oppertunity

Wouldn't think it would be that hard. Lots of room in the chevy. I'd use the Ford trans, though I'd want a 5 speed or od. Also would use the ford radiator - I'm sure the chevy one would be too small. Basically use the entire idi powertrain assembly. I would look into what the chevy rear...

    Relocating Washer and Coolant resivoir

You will probably need to keep the coolant reservoir about the same level relative to the radiator, which somewhat limits where you can move it to. Can't say for sure, but I think it woln't work right if it's lower than the top tank.

    Advice needed

5k on a rebuild? I wouldn't worry about any of the internals, and I doubt think seals would have any issues either. Studs would be wise. You can probably put them in without pulling the heads if you do them one at a time and torque directly to full torque before going to the next one. I...

    Starters for grinding ring gears

Now that I think about it I'm pretty sure I had looking into the double relay setup some years ago.... can't recall why though, or why I never did it. :dunno I think the best would be to use another solenoid - not too large and you already know it can handle the current. You would need to...

    Starters for grinding ring gears

You'd need a big honking relay though.... probably best bet would be another diesel starter solenoid, and maybe another relay to drive it. Would also need to be wired up with big heavy gauge wire... Not a bad idea though.

WONT PRIME AFTER IP INSTALL HELP!

Sounds like you may have a weak lift pump or plugged fuel filter. It should squirt out on the pump cycle. Could also be slow crank speed. That being said, it should still prime eventually, though i would want to address the weak lift pump eventually too - it could be that the injection pump was...

    Best place to order gears?

Randy's ring and pinion seems to be well reputed with the 4wd offroad crowd. No personal experience with them yet though. http://www.ringpinion.com/b2c/PartsList.aspx?SearchMode=Cat&CatID=35&MakeID=2&ModelID=254&Side=Rear&DriveType=4WD&DiffID=155

    Fan clutch 2, me 0

Dumb question, but are you sure you're turning it the right direction? It's reverse thread. I've certainly done similar things a time or 2. I would try to put heat on the fan clutch nut and use a big hammer. It should come off. Honestly not sure you can pull the water pump with the clutch...

    Starters for grinding ring gears

I wouldn't mess with the flange - this would more the entire starter in, which might cause interference between the starter nose housing and the ring gear. You'd also have trouble getting it square and even, and it's going to be permanent. Come to think of it, this would be more work, since the...

    Starters for grinding ring gears

It's possibly to machine the end of the solenoid plunger to delay the terminals closing, but is somewhat of a trial and error thing. I had this problem show up last spring and was able to get past it by eventually taking about 1/8" off the plunger which also required shortening the spring...

Is a Pallet of topsoil too heavy?

Exactly. There's some things that may be worth taking a chance on... this is not, because of what I mentioned above. The overloading isn't a problem at all to me... if anything just go slow. Rig can handle it fine. I've done my share of dumb heavy loads and managed to never have any problems...

SF Bay Area GTG memorial day weekend.

Looking for the location too - guess I could just drive around looking for a collection of old trucks, but that seems a bit inefficient. Got a few parts to get rid of I'm going to probably bring up too.

    DNE2 Shift Motor Replacement Odd

Where the terminals go through the cover plate it could ground if the bushings weren't put on properly, or the back of the bolt heads maybe could. Unlikely, but there's not a lot else to go wrong with those.
