    US Gear Surprise

Please post pictures if you can. What do mean by TDO (I assume that's "time delay output") eliminating accidental range changes? All you need is a system that will put out a ~1 second 12+ output when given and input signal, either constant on from a push/pull type switch or a momentary...

    power steering fluid cooler.

Disagree - there's no good thermal conductivity between the tube and crossmemeber - there's almost no conductivity since it's mounted on plastic spacers.

    Gear Vendors Or Not

I would look carefully at the numbers - you'll need to drive many thousands of miles for the fuel savings to come remotely close to the cost of the GV. I'd expect to see a difference of 1-2 mpg max, probably less if you're doing anything other than high speed empty freeway driving. You can get...

Keep custom intercooler pipes from blowing off.

Nice approach. I ran a weld bead around the end of mine to do the same thing - cheaper than another new tool at least, though not as pretty. Mine are aluminum, so the bead is soft, would want to be more careful with steel to make sure there weren't any sharp edges left to rip up the hose.

    associated diesel experience anyone?

Not something I'd carry a spare for - truck should still run enough to get you home/a safe spot though it will be running rough and spraying fuel. Chances are good that you'll have to pull more than 1 line and fiddle quite a bit to get the injection pump end on/off, so it's something I would...

    US Gear Surprise

To the best of my knowledge, there is *no* fancy current sensing system, it's a simple timer. The lead screw design is overrunning, so once it reaches the stops (roll pins through screw at each end), the screw simply spins. Likely not good to let it run for too long this way, but 1-2 seconds...

Vacuum pumps and blow by..can it be done on our diesels

I strongly doubt it would be remotely worth the trouble with an idi. The main benefit as I understand it is reduced losses due to less drag from moving the air around in the crankcase. This is going to be a much greater loss for a high rpm engine however, so for an idi turning at 3k rpm I'd...

    Supercharging?

No point. A turbo is much more efficient economical and effective. m Only real advantage to a supercharger is that you have no lag, but this is much less likely to be an issue in a truck application than say a race engine. The flow is also not going to match load the way a turbo does, and...

Benefits Of A Electronic Fuel Pump?

I would expect to see more pressure than that at high rpm - perhaps the fuel filter is getting clogged? I don't think actual fuel consumption at higher rpm is that much different, at least under no load, but there will be more flow through the pump due to higher internal pressure causing...

Sending unit for rear tank, Are they avaliable?

Doubt they'd be an improvement, I expected they'd just redo the original contacts which means it will eventually have the same wear problem. Replacing it with a wire wound setup would take some significant rework I'd guess. Also $75-150+ shipping... not really a cheaper alternative from what...

Air filter relocated and RDT thoughts?

1" id should be okay, would probably try for 1-1/4" if possible. Big thing is to avoid excessive restriction from kinks, bends, fittings, etc. Many of the fittings (like elbows) are quite small inside if you look closely, so a 1" fitting may only be 3/4" or less, which is close to 50% of the...

    Axle conversion Ideas?

3.55 would be an improvement over 3.07 - I imagine the 3.07 is pretty bad for anything other than light freeway. I had a 3.31 in one truck for a while and definitely had issues with the low end. I'd try for a 4.10 or so for a farm rig, though a 3,55 should work fine and it sounds like the...

Sending unit for rear tank, Are they avaliable?

You can also cobble in a universal sensor without too much trouble, though you also need to add a universal type gauge IIRC as the resistance range is different.

    HX35 Results

One of these days I'll do a thread.... course I've been saying that for a while. LOL It's pretty simple to do. You need the cruise module (actuator and controller are all in one) which will bolt up in the same place as the stock vacuum servo and has the same throttle connector. 93-94 idi...

    HX35 Results

Well, to each their own, but from what I've seen I would not really consider him a definitive source of information. Haven't seen that test so I can't really say much, however I doubt it's a really in depth consideration of the true strength of the studs - it's not just how much it takes to...

    HX35 Results

Studs and 0.015" decked pistons with ceramic coating on mine. I wouldn't do it without both. Greg, I would be very hesitant to be running that kind of boost with the stock cr - even on mine I try to be careful going over about 15psi. Also would recommend against over torquing the studs -...

    HX35 Results

Yep, regular dodge cummins HX35W. IIRC off a 98. 12 cm housing I think, though I'm not sure. The one I have is the 8 blade compressor, the later ones use a 7 blade that is supposed to flow slightly more although some info I found suggested this is at the expense of low flow efficiency.

    Ceramic Coating Pistons

The ceramic coating acts as a heat barrier - same idea as having a glove on when you get something out of the oven. When used on a piston crown this significantly reduces the amount of heat transferred into the piston from the combustion gasses which results in the piston being cooler and less...

F-53 chassis engine fan clutch part number

My book is for 85, but it should at least point you in the right direction. I come up with E4UZ 8A616-A listed for E series with AC; E3TZ-8A616-L for F series w/o AC & E3TZ 8A616-P for F series w/AC. Also notes #E3UA-VA; #E3TA-NA; & #E3TA-UA for each number above respectively under the...

    Broken Rocker Arm?

How does he know it's a broken rocker? Did he look at it? The older aluminum pivot type rockers could certainly wear out a pivot and wind up with the actual rocker coming loose though the truck would have been 'chuffing' for quite some time before that due to the valve not opening. Not sure...

Forgot to punch valley pan holes

I'd be somewhat surprised if that's the problem - AFAIK pretty much every pan that's not 1980's OEM Ford comes with drain holes already so unless you found some NOS Ford/IH parts you should have the holes. Also I would expect poor drainage to back pressure the turbo and push oil out the...

    Trailer decisions

My horse trailer is a GN. No reason you can't, you just need to be careful about the rear axle weight. A GN will put about 25% of the trailer weight on the hitch vs 10-15% with a BP. With a SRW truck it's only going to take 2-2500lb of hitch weight to be at max load on the rear axle, which...

    engine clean up questions?

Official Ford instruction are to not do it unless the engine is dead cold. Apparently if the injection pump is hot and you hit the outside with cold water it could shrink enough to seize/damage the pump. I think this isn't that likely personally, but still worth putting out there. Also be...

    Transmission ZF-5 Done

Sounds like something in the shift mechanism. Decent chance it's not in the actual trans case, if something was messed up there I'd expected the trans to be locked up completely. I would pull the floor pan and take the shift mechanism cover off to see if you could fix it there without...

    Trailer decisions

Should be okay. Probably your weakest link is the brake system. Official Ford spec GCWR for a 6.9 auto w/ 4.10 is 14,000lb (1985) which gives a max trailer weight of 7-8k depending on your truck light weight. That being said, the 460 auto w/ 4.10 rating is 18,500lb, or ~10k trailer and...
