The silicone tube is supposed to be tight to hold the connector tight on the glowplug. Silicone is very flexible so it will stretch to fit. I would imagine the best lube that would evaporate would be spit but there might be something better

The silicone hose is very stretchy which is what holds the connector to the glowplug when I built my harness that way I used electrical lubricant which made the install easier but didn't hold the plug as well. I'd imagine spit or anything that would evaporate would work better. I'd show pictures...
If you want to make your own glowplug harness and are having issues with the bullet connectors staying on, I found using either 3.5mm (for a tighter fit) or 4.0mm (easier install) silicone vacuum hose works well as a band on the connector. I used it on my truck and it worked well

Update time:
Got the engine torn down to a bare block just waiting to get another truck to run enough to be able to get the block to the machine shop to get bored out.

Many people find the electric fans do not move enough air to effectively cool the engine where the mechanical is capable of moving more air.

From what I understand you want lift pump pressure to stay consistent. With more pressure it advances the timing and less pressure retards the timing but the trucks want stable timing.

Sounds like air intrusion. Check for fuel leaks around the injector caps, and all fuel lines in the system. Any small fuel leak will let in air into the system losing prime. Wes at classic diesel designs has check valves to go on the mechanical fuel pump to help with backflow of fuel causing the...
It would be an obvious extra puff that happens rhythmically sometimes accompanied by a larger puff of smoke but not all the time
Without the turbo itll be slow towing but itll still pull loads fine

Listen at the intake with the filter removed and at the exhaust for a cuffing sound when running. That should tell if there is any valve damage. When cranking without starting listen to the sound. Every cylinder should sound the same speed. If it speeds up anytime in the rotation it shows a...
It doesn't take much oring damage to cause a leak and it doesn't take much crud on the sealing surfaces to leak as well
