So I heard from Sachs. Apparently, I got one of their HD clutch kits, which is intended for a MDT application. They offer a standard duty disc that looks pretty identical to my LUK disc.
Sooooo does anyone need a MDT Clutch? LOL
The LUK kit has 10 damping springs in the clutch hub, 4 large and 6 smaller. The Sachs kit has 8 smaller springs. From what I can tell, the LUK disc just has a better ability to soak up the pulses from the engine.
The Sachs kit was fine functionally. Engagement was smooth and easy, it just...
I FINALLY fixed this damn thing. 12 months, and several attempts, it was that damn clutch all along. I installed a LUK kit tonight and it's as quiet as it was with the DMF. Better late than never I suppose.
Timing shouldn't affect operation of the tach. Screw in the sensor and wire it up and it should work. There's a great article in the Tech article section that I used to guide me through my first IP/injector swap and kept me from screwing anything up too bad.
Let me know when/if you need help...
I have a MBRP exhaust intended for a 96 Powerstroke on my truck. Had to move one hangar, and adapt it to the ATS down pipe on my turbo kit. If the price is right, you can buy it and sell the included power stroke downpipe (i did) and it works great.
I've had the trans out of my truck 4 times recently, with one more time scheduled due to clutch problems. I've always just let the slave hang by the hose and it goes back in and weeks great. Plastic holding dealie is long gone. Am I tempting fate or just lucky?
Thanks Peter. I appreciate your input. I'm scheduled to fix all this next week I think. We'll see if I can carve out the time in my schedule to get to the shop and work on it.
The truck drive into the bay for me to swap the clutch, with no rollover noise or gear clatter at all. The second I started it with the SMF I had horrible gear clatter. Way worse than any other SMF equipped truck I'd ever heard. I should have stopped there and gotten a different kit...
I'm still fighting horrible rattle noise issues that started when I installed the clutch. You might have seen my other threads, but I had a off-center flywheel, swapped that, no change. I installed a reman trans because that off center flywheel took out my input bearing and 2nd gear synchros...
I can't for the life of me find the plastic one that came with my kit. I'm swapping out my Sachs clutch for a Luk kit next week, and need a tool. Anyone have an extra they're willing to part with?
