    MIRRORS

I have a set of extenders for the factory mirrors on my 1992. I use them when towing my buddies big enclosed car hauler. Otherwise, I can see around my flatbed just fine. The extenders let the mirror head vibrate a little at highway speeds, but you can see whats behind you long as you don't...

Stopped to look at someone's yard ornament today.

I'd give $20 for that turbo diesel emblem on the tailgate :) Buy it!

Need help/ideas on removing side trim - Anybody having the same problems as me?

Rubber eraser wheel in a drill is the best bet. Pay extra for a 3m brand - the cheapos don't last as long. Go to a paint/body supply place.

2014 Las Vegas area IDI get-together.

I maybe can meet for a beer or whatever mid afternoon. I have an appointment scheduled for 9am Sat that will take a few hours I suspect.

I'm game for that. We can just meet at a restaurant or whatever and have a beer and tell some lies. Low key and casual.

Oh man, you SOLD an FJ55? I have a HUGE soft spot for old Toyotas (I'm a field engineer of sorts for Toyota). Good work as usual!

    firewall clearance...

It's hard to tell by looking. They don't always crack and split...the rubber compresses over time and lowers the clearance between the cab and the frame. Check your body lines where the cab meets the bed. Are they lined up perfectly? My bet is the cab is low by 1/2" or more. My truck...

1998 E4OD on the outside... ...wait a minute!

So my first reply to this thread was to run it and enjoy. You clearly have demonstrated that you are obsessive-compulsive about details and build quality. I ABSOLUTELY support and respect that. I just read the whole thread and am very impressed with the attention to detail and quality of your...

    Let's Talk Intercoolers

Yeah they are pricey. But they also have what you need sometimes. Check out Nevada House of Hose too. (Play on words there, which is funny every time!) Butchs caters to the desert race/offroad crowd rather than the industrial supply crowd. TONS of cool stuff in there if you have some time...

    Let's Talk Intercoolers

Butch's speed shop has a great selection of silicone couplers. Not as cheap as online, but I don't remember them being $45 when I was in there a few weeks back.

Trailer Lights and Trailer Brake Controller

That's definitely the brake controller wiring. I have my P3 hooked up there with the factory pigtail. Ford might be able to get you the pigtail still. If memory serves I had to install a couple fuses and the trailer plug in the rear works great. I have the factory 7pin semi truck style as...

    detailing aluminum wheel cleanup questions

Elbow grease and some good wheel polish. Also had good luck with one of those mothers powerball polishers you put in a cordless drill. Best luck is one at a time, off the truck. Bonus points for cleaning the brake dust off the backsides too. Or take $50 and your truck to a truckstop. Find a...

    $37.+ for a thermostat & gasket!?

Did you walk in and they had it in stock? No waiting? No shipping? Gotta pay for convenience if you want it right now. There's a lot to be said for a dealership that stocks parts for a truck that hasn't been made in 20 years.

    Rim size? help!

1999 and up use a 8-170mm lug pattern that will NOT work on the 97down trucks. Old trucks use 8-6.5" lug pattern. You'd need alloy wheels from an old body style truck in order for them to work.

How long can you run an IDI with no coolant?

temp gauge won't do any good without coolant in the system.

1998 E4OD on the outside... ...wait a minute!

Run it. The IDI won't make enough power to hurt it, and you won't be towing heavy behind a van. It's common to mix-n-match parts if its a Remanufactured unit. Unless it was remanufactured after all the ford updates became standard issue (not just a TSB, where if you encounter xxxx problem...

    Incredibly LOUD SMF conversion

Just have your part house check the part numbers. My first clutch was a Sachs labelled "HD" in the part number indicating "heavy duty". In talking with a product engineer at Sachs, they offer a standard duty clutch which has the EXACT same spring configuration as the LUK that I installed...
