Thanks guys. The flywheels are all probably cast in the same factory in China, knowing how things go these days. Some poor kid making $.05/hr is getting reamed for not scraping the casting mold sufficiently or something.... My troubles aren't over, but at least the damn thing runs. I'm...- reklund

Need to modify flywheel dust cover!!!
Wow, small world. Just installed a Sachs clutch kit in mine and have the same issue. Something on the backside of the flywheel must be just different enough... I'm gonna bend mine towards the front of the truck slightly where it goes around the lower "hump" of the oil pan. That seems to be...- reklund

Who the hell knows about the inspection cover. I very well may have tweaked it slipping it between the crossover pipe and the bellhousing and oil pan. I'll get it put back on. I was gonna do it today but got distracted washing and waxing the truck. The flywheel I removed definitely was NOT...- reklund

Well, I put it back together today. New flywheel, same disc and pressure plate. 4 quarts of synthetic ATF in the trans, and filled the transfer case with fresh ATF too. Everything went back together smoothly, except the inspection cover. I had to tweak it to get it to bolt up, which was odd...- reklund

I'm gonna put it back together and run it and see what I get. My travel schedule is so hectic that if I open that trans, it'll be months before I get it back together. If it's still noisy, I'll order a reman and swap them out. Time just doesn't allow for anything else at this point.- reklund

Swapped out my flywheel today for an actual Sachs flywheel. It looks WAAAAAYYYYYY different than the one they gave me initially, AND it was $35 cheaper. It actually looks machined and balanced on the backside, and has drill marks where someone attempted to balance it. Now to make a decision...- reklund

No oil seepage from the input at all. What's your guy charge for a overhaul? I understand some rattle and some don't. I just can't believe some people live with the noise. I'm ready to trade my smf for a used DMF just to get back to where I was 2 weeks ago... Ryan- reklund

Got the trans and clutch removed today. Trans fluid came out clean, with no signs of glitter in it. Clutch looks fine, no signs of "camming" from an off center flywheel. Trans input shaft has lots of play, but pilot bearing looks ok. I'll pull the PTO covers tomorrow, but it looks like a trans...- reklund
