I live in the So cal area, but sorry I don't have anyone to recommend. When I first got the truck, yes I did take it to a local diesel mechanic thinking that I didn't have the experience to do it myself. He changed the lift pump and in the process had loosened the vacuum pump, and he didn't...
I noticed that Ford also specified "Type H" for the C6 at some point. Never heard of it before a few days ago. It's no wonder people get so confused about all this.
No plans to get it flushed, in fact just got finished installing this:
It was a bear to get in there though. I had to grind the fins down to get it to fit without hitting the crossmember and then trying to get those bolts in at the back of the pan was an absolute PITA. But at least now I...
And here I thought Chrysler transmissions specified ATF+4. Maybe the older tranmissions were less picky about what they needed.

It seems that at some point in time, Ford called for the use of Dexron fluid, at least in the C6. On my truck the dipstick says you had to use Dexron II in order to not void the warranty. Of course nowadays, Ford says that Mercon V replaces all the previous fluids, but I was always under the...
Try replacing the return line going from the fuel filter to an injector cap with some clear hose. That will give you a pretty good indication of whether or not you're getting any air in the lines. I had very similar symptoms and it turned out to be the water separator. Not saying that's your...
Checked the CDR and I can blow through it so it doesn't seem clogged or anything. Any way to determine if there would be anything causing high crankcase pressure?

The gasket is just a normal felpro rubber gasket. I used brake clean on everything. I cleaned off everything on both the valve covers and head including the bolts and spreaders.
I tried to get everything to around ~5in-lbs, but some of it's guess work because I can't get the torque wrench to...
Just redid valve cover gaskets because after last time I did them, they started leaking even worse than they had been leaking, and it seems that the leaks were all originating from around the bolt holes.
This time, I checked that the surface was flush along the valve covers and discovered...
Gutless? Doesn't bother me too much.
Sure my truck is slow, but I don't feel so bad when I speed past a 6.4 powerstroke broken down on the side of the road spewing out white smoke. True story.
I really don't know what the differences are between the stock and dealer systems in terms of how they are mounted. I do remember that the A/C guy told me that my compressor is obsolete, and I didn't believe him until I researched it for myself. Luckily mine still works just fine. Almost blows...
Here are a couple of pics of how my compressor is mounted near the PS pump. It looks like Towcat already gave you a pic of what you needed to see, but let me know if you would like any more pics of the setup.
My truck has dealer A/C. I don't know what "style" the compressor is, but the model is HR980. I can take pics later this evening when I get home if you want.
As far as I am aware, there is no alternative sold for the reusable filter with the Banks kit besides buying a new reusable filter.
I have the same square air filter on my truck, and I've never seen any evidence of dirt or anything getting past it.
I put in the Rotella T5 for my last oil change. It was the same price as the normal Rotella at the time, so I figured why not. It has worked fine for me. I do notice that they call it a "synthetic blend", so it may not be a full synthetic, thus the cheaper price.
I noticed what appears to be solder bloom in the radiator. I'm not sure, because it looks like it could be just mineral buildup too. Is there a way to get rid of it? I don't have any overheating problems, so I'm not too worried about it just yet, but I don't know if it's better to put in a new...
I think this was exactly the issue. I had some time this evening to take another look at it, and I adjusted the drum brakes until I couldn't turn the wheels, then backed off on the adjusters until it was just slightly rubbing (the wheels woulds spin almost a full turn).
After going out for a...
