I’ve driven that in the past with my 440 Chrysler powered RV. IIRC it would bring me down to about 40mph going over those passes.
I’m usually coming from the North and take Hwy 6 which is much longer and steeper in general. In my IDI pulling my 5th wheel it will drop my speed to 35-40 going...
If it has that many turns and curves you won’t be the only one going slow. So I’m betting your RV does just fine. The turbo will alleviate most of the altitude issues.
My F-350 doesn’t seem to have much problems on roads like that; I just have to understand that when the road straightens back...
Good questions; I also wonder about “recipes” for these IDIs. My focus is to start with making sure my fuel system will be capable of supporting the power target. ( I’m looking for 325 at the flywheel which I think is a good balance between power and reliability on my IDIT)
Also looking to do a...
That’s a sweet looking old highboy!!
My first truck was a ‘69 bump side. 2wd with a cammed 390 and a sloppy 4-speed. Good times and lots of broken front shock mounts!
I tow heavy with 3.55s and a ZF-5. It does struggle getting off the line on a hill, but once rolling I generally stay in 4th gear unless it’s downhill. I just moved from 285s to 265s to see if that helps.
When running light I love that I can hit 5th and run 80+ (lots of 80mph speed limits...
The guy that did my tint told me that they hate hate hate doing these old trucks, so they will bid then high hoping you go away.
He did my car in about 1.5 hours and the truck took about 2.5 hours. When I went to take him some beverages he was grumbling about "$%#@$ wing windows".
I'm actually just really, really late from doing it last summer!! I had 2 seperated appointments to have it done and both fell through for different reasons.
Better late than never.
New braided brake lines. Took longer than it should have after running into a stuck bleeder and having to run to NAPA for a new caliper. No pics of the rear, but it was easier than the fronts.
Wife helped me bleed the brakes. That's always a pleasure.
Test drove and the pedal is a little...
Nice to see it wasn’t something more onerous!
I’ve never heard of that one. I’d bet money that some IDIs are running like that unbeknownst to their owner..!
Towcat put my original install in the IDI Tech Articles way back in the day.

Separate cooling systems means the IC doesn't have to try and shed engine heat- which makes it more efficient. I also...
I may take you up on that, but it may be a few weeks before I can get up your way.
My buddy and I are headed to Vegas and Primm next weekend as we had the terrible idea to enter the Mint400 race. Mostly just to say we did it. Entered the Team Enduro class so it should be fairly low key fun, but...
I weighed ours on a trip up through Idaho and Montana last year.
We haul my wife's Willys in the back. It weighs around 3200 lbs.
If you are up on your brake maintenance and your trailer brakes work well I feel like these trucks are ok up to about 21k in the mountains. I have 3.55s and a...
Truck is '94 F-350. I'm using the Kent Moore J33300 that I've had for 10+ years, but I haven't used it for a long time. Timing light is an ESI that does not have any advance dials. Just straight up zero. Using a fuel line ferret on #1 cylinder.
I marked the dampener and the sight with white...
