I've bought quite a bit of stuff from RJm over the years... doing 5.0L conversions on 3 Early Broncos and one Cj-7. Always good service and better than OEM quality.
Nice pics Brad!
Well... it may a be a while before I can get this done now. Wife was t-boned in her Jetta yesterday. She and the others involved are unhurt, thank heaven!!
Good news is that I have found a good machine shop, now we need to get the car fixed before I can consider finishing this motor. It needs...
Thanks!
I did a bit of research on this- there are some great write ups in the PS world. I wondered if our trucks would even need any shims. Almost popped for the valve height micrometer, but our budget has it limits.
Trust me, if I had the time off to do that I would!!
I've made it to Portland in 10 hours on my bike! Funny thing is that my truck must have spent some time up there before. When I was fixing the heater door I found a flyer to a church dance in Oregon with a little map on how to get there...
Well, it turns out that there is a "diesel" premium for machine work around here. The shop I talked to told me $45 each for head resurfacing plus $20 to clean them originally, or $130 total. Now that its a diesel head they want $300 and that doesn't include any teardown.
Gotta love it.
Concerns...
Went after getting the heads prepped tonight. There is some gouging and pitting where the sealing ring goes.
Is this enough to warrant having it shaved?
Fun day at the JY
I got it... but its only a two way fitting as far as I can tell. Will put up a pic in a bit.
Managed to get the serpentine pulleys, steering pump, water pump and fan (Couldn't get the fan off at the yard so I took it all), valve covers (turbo), glow plug controller and...
Had my 15 psi boost gauge pegged full throttle EGTs about 975F. Doing 85+ and still accelerating up Parleys (the pass from Salt lake to Park City). I was honestly paying too much attention to my temperature gauge and didn't notice the boost was buried until I saw the steam.
Before the...
Thanks Towcat!
Called a Ford dealer a little further away then the bastards who were too lazy to look it up; not in stock, but she said it was in the "Motorcraft Warehouse" and would have one in 45 minutes.;Sweet $26.79 BTW
Cleaned up the heads and checked the flatness tonight. Used a Starret Machinist Level and the smallest feeler gauge I have which is .0015; found that the 1.5 thou would slide in just a bit in one or two orientations, so I moved up to the 2 thou gauge. It was a no go.
Did the same on the...
Yep. I could get the motor and trans and sell the trans for enough to cover the whole she-bang.
Bad part is the intake has been open and no hood, so who knows how much water has gone down the intake... It has been very dry here for the last few months, but who knows.
Went looking for a serpentine belt system... found a '94 IDIT with a 5-speed. 4x4 and all. Someone already got the turbo and the hood is off.
Going back tomorrow to pull whats left of the serpentine system. The alternator and A/C are missing. Will other (gasser) Ford A/C units have the same...
I can pull my crew cab in less than 2 hours... the damn running boards take longer to remove than anything else. (It's an '86)
P.s. always antiseize the cab bolts when you have them out!!
No matter how big the inter-radiator is it cannot get the temperature below ambient plus a few degrees. This is true of air/air or air/water, although air/air does do a slightly better job.
One of the big issues with my setup was that I have no cold air intake. The intercooler was having to...
Thrust is .0055!
Ok. Used Gary's 250 degree oven trick and managed to get the cam gear and hardware on with NO 3rd degree burns! Worked pretty slick. Used my laser thermo gun to check the temp as I was concerned about getting them too hot... can't be too careful.
Torqued the Allen on the...
I just pulled my motor apart and the headgaskets are coming off in one piece; but they are delaminating badly. When I get home I will post a picture of them and you can tell me if they will work.
