Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

Update! I was getting ready to tear the dash apart and inspect the battery light wiring/bulb, but figured I should check all the fuses for the fourth time to be sure. Soooooo........I somehow confused #29 fuse for another, and didn't realize that #29 has been completely missing this whole...

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

I never would of thought the battery light ran inline to the wire that activates the alternator, but looking at this, I see how a the battery light could act like a burnt fuse. Rock

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

That's really great info, I am definitely going to check the battery light out. I I tested it by grounding the wire to it, and it never came on. So if I understand correctly, if the bulb is bad, it won't conduct electricity to the alternator? I hope it's that. Thank you so much, I really...

The diagram I am using ( from the interwebs) doesn't go higher than fuse number 30. Do you happen to know of a better diagram? I have no idea where fuse 45 is now. Thanks Rock

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

So I charged up the batteries and drove it home so I can work on it. The batteries were at 12.3v when I left, and 11.2 when I got home(15 minutes). It just seems like the alternator isn't turning on. Does anyone have a diagram of the 2 activation wires that plug into the alternator? Also, I...

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

That's correct. After charging batteries, they both tested at 12.7v, there at around 10v before it dies. I had the batteries tested yesterday when I brought in the alternator. Tested good, but drained. Rock

I don't remember seeing the battery light come on, even with the engine off and key on. I thought that was strange I really appreciate you taking those readings. I'm starting to wonder, if it's not as simple as the batteries, maybe the GPs are stick on? I noticed they run for quite awhile...

It only seems to be while it's running that the batteries get drained. A few minutes after startup the voltage just drops fast and the truck dies. Batteries are charging now, then I'll give a shot again. Rock

All I tested was the big lug on the back of the alternator. I didn't realize the regulator was external. Can you please explain how I should test it? This is a first working on a PSD for me. Thanks Rock

Got the alternator tested, it came back good. I got it swapped out anyway. Does the same thing. I put the batteries on charge, and am starting to thinking the batteries and alternator have been playing games on each other. Here's what I'm thinking... I put new batteries in, then the alternator...

Do you guys think they just gave me a bad alternator then? I'm just wondering if there's anything I might be missing. Thanks

Barely... I noticed it flicker once for 2 seconds, but I've never seen it stay on besides that during all of this. Thanks Rock

It sounds like the glow plugs keep clicking on and off awhile, but I'm still getting used to this. What's the best way to disconnect the GPS to be sure? Thanks

Need help ASAP, truck is dead!

I pulled into work this morning and I noticed the voltage started to drop again, just like it did before I replaced the batteries. Something drained the batteries and it wouldn't restart, started to act like an alternator gone bad. Got a new one at Napa and had the brand new batteries load...

    Picked up my E99 zf6

When I left home, it read 11 volts unloaded. During the attempt to drive to Walmart, It started creeping down fast, knew I would be in trouble. Gauges died at 9v, the truck stayed running down to 6-7 volts, but it dropped fast. Rock

Thank you for the tips, I'll be sure to check those things, and swap out the cps. Today I was leaving for the farm, batteries were dead so I jumped it quick and headed for Walmart to get 2 new batteries since they were old and mismatched. I got 3/4 of the way there, and the gauges all died...

any 6.9 fuel water separator alternatives?

Both my 6.9s didn't have the factory water separators, and as far as I know, came that way. Rock

any 6.9 fuel water separator alternatives?

I'm curious if it was because my two 6.9s were both 87s. I know they did some things that were specific to that year. It could be, they upgraded to a 7.3 filter head for that year with the rocker arms, and GP system. Rock

    Picked up my E99 zf6

Hey there, this is my first post in the powerstroke section, as I've only had IDIs in the past. I made the leap to a powerstroke, and while I'll definitely miss the IDIs, am so glad I made the switch. Only problem worth noting, is it won't shift into L or R unless you do some fancy stuff. It...

any 6.9 fuel water separator alternatives?

I've used 6.9 filters on my 7.3, and 7.3 filters on my 6.9. no problems, they both threaded on and sealed correctly. I'm not saying anybody is wrong, that's just my experience. Rock

any 6.9 fuel water separator alternatives?

Why do you consider a 7.3 filter head an upgrade? You can just get a water separator (a replacement filter with a drain petcock) to spin on the stock filter head. The 6.9 and the 7.3 filter heads use the same filters, so neither is an upgrade. Napa has the filters with petcocks for either 6.9 or...
