    Picked up my E99 zf6

Thanks, it worked out better than I expected with the donor. I was very happy to be able and drive it back since my dually is obviously under the knife right now. The funny part is I have been daily driving the donor(automatic) since I only own manual vehicles ,and temporarily can't drive a...

    Picked up my E99 zf6

I picked up the donor truck last night Rust free rig, definitely didn't live an easy life, but the cab is solid. It's a 5.4 auto 2wd. It's got 99k miles on it, so I figure it's worth it for parting it out. It made the 3hr drive home, so I can't complain. That's the good news..... Now, on the...

Yes, wish I would've at least kept my 87 zf5 . I'm kind of keeping an eye out for another as a backup truck. Rock

    Who's smarter?

I'll contribute my 2 cents..... Before I sold all my IDIs, they were my work vehicles and daily driven. Once caught up on maintenance, they are extremely reliable and simple. I would be lying if I said I didn't miss that aspect. I also think that they are a lot of truck for the money in most...

So what did you do with your truck today?

    Picked up my E99 zf6

Cab is ready to be picked off. Today was fun.....all of the stuff I left for last got done. During all of this thinking time, it occurred to me, now I can actually see the engine under all that crap. Which leads to another idea..... A tilt hood I realize this won't be a walk in the park, but I...

    7.3idi stalling

Did you replace the filter and fill it with atf? If that doesn't do anything, you may have air intrusion. Don't jump the gun on an ip unless you like spending money. Rock

    Picked up my E99 zf6

Well.... Plans changed I the inner structure of the cab was way worse than I expected, so I'm gonna just swap cabs. And of course since that isn't enough work, I'm swapping on a crew cab to make it worth my while. If my measurements are correct, a 1 inch body lift will clear the frame rise (...

    Picked up my E99 zf6

I had some time yesterday to rip the bed off and get the truck stuffed in the garage. I pulled the rear doors to get started on all this lovely rust here.... After that, I'll drop the tranny and see what I want to do there when I replace the clutch fork. If everything goes as planned, I'll go...

    Srw flatbed

The frame is much stronger at the webbing then either of the flanges when put under load. It's not a problem for a pickup bed because it's flexible, but slap on a heavy steel framed bed, and it puts a lot more pressure on those flanges than they were designed for. When I installed the flatbed on...

    Dana 60 turn radius

One of two reasons I sold my beloved crew cab was the ridiculous turning radius of the d60. And I ground off the stops as well. My super duty dually puts it to shame. Other reason was gearing. It comes with the territory I guess Rock

    Napa warranty from noncorporate stores?

All Napa stores I have dealt with, honored warranties or returns no questions asked. It didn't matter if I was dealing with two different franchises on either end of an exchange, as long as I had the receipt. My local store on the other hand, never asks for a receipt from me, because we're buddy...

    1989 F-250 7.3 Project

I'd bet something is up with the bushings. When I rebuilt the support in my crew cab, I bought new bushings from JC Whitney. I'd guess there was some funny business with the old ones. One of my trucks had hockey pucks for Pete sake, lol. An inch is a lot to make up, but I don't see any of the...

Sad day and clutch (I thought...)

These truck tranny's are really heavy, if you try dropping it and especially reinstalling it by hand on your back like a sports car tranny, you will hate life from that point on .... I'm serious....... Don't use the hf scissor jack unless you want a broken hand .... Rock

what goes into pulling an idi?

I'm an IH guy, always ran them, but still have a soft spot for a Massey. There good tractors. Mine was a 203, which was the industrial version of the 135. Rock

what goes into pulling an idi?

The old Massey backhoe I had was the poster child for hydraulic leaks.....all the seals were shot, so the buckets would drop down pretty quick even while running at operating rpm. It would still lift 3k with ease though, and that little Perkins never quit. They don't make 'em like that anymore...

Running new motor oil vs waste motor oil?

When I had my IDIs, I came across a few old home heating oil tanks that were full and folks needed gone. my only worry was getting fined for running off road diesel since it's the exact same thing. I'm curious if any of you guys had experience with this as far as getting stopped for off road...

Running new motor oil vs waste motor oil?

You really won't know unless you get an oil sample, but all oil looks dark in bulk, not to mention the fact we are looking through not so clear plastic. Rock

Running new motor oil vs waste motor oil?

I never gave a second thought to new oil in my IDIs. Whenever i got a cheap 5 gallon bucket (not anymore) I'd dump the whole thing in. Always idled smoother. Of course that's not 90%, but i wouldn't worry with new oil. You could always thin it out with gas or kerosene. I miss my IDI for that...

Running new motor oil vs waste motor oil?

Heck, 2500 is nothing for your truck. 50 small square bales is 2500. I hauled that every other day on my 87 f250 during the winter. It's a ford, it can take it Rock
