    Pesky water separator

So that there is some conclusion for anyone who finds this, I put it back together without the sock. The air leak went away and the truck runs fine. The light stayed on for the rest of that tank plus another one but it's now off. Eventually I might swap this out for a Racor filter but seems...

    Pesky water separator

The light came back on and I tried pulling the plunger and nothing came out. The air intrusion became so bad the truck wouldn't idle anymore. So I took this stupid little thing off and took it apart and cleaned it. I feel like the plunger wasn't working right or the hose was just plugged...

    Pesky water separator

Interesting, I'm always using a an additive and lately I've been using Hotshots secret everyday additive. It's not my first choice but easy to find near me.

I figure cleaning it wouldn't hurt anyways but neither would replacing it I guess...

    Pesky water separator

So the seemingly classic thing happened where the "water in fuel" light came on for the first time and I pulled the drain plunger which then has led to hard starts. I put a nut and bolt in the line to hopefully keep air from getting in and it didn't help. Drove the truck a few times and the...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I'm going to consider this solved. Put the new flasher fuses in and they work so IDK what happened but the voltage regulator was definitely an issue. Thank you everyone especially @BeastMaster for the help.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

What kind of starter issues are we talking? Honestly sounds a little scratchy sometimes when I fire it up. After it sat for awhile during this when I started it the starter was grinding a bit but I figured that was because the batteries were like 12.55 then after glow plugs maybe kinda low so it...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

No, you’re right but the weird thing is that neither hazards or turn signal work. Yeah, maybe a whole bundle of wires has issues.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I think the problem was solved with the new voltage regulator BUT I'm not entirely sure. I took the truck for a spin today and put like 100 miles on it. First thing I noticed was that neither the turn signals or hazard lights worked. I pulled over, took both of the fuses out of the fuse box...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I see. At the moment the batteries have been attached to the truck for probably 36-48 hrs and remain at 12.56 so I’m fairly certain the parasitic draw has been eliminated. The truck hasn’t been driven yet though so I’ll report back after that. I might replace the alternator or research local...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I did the same test with the test light after replacing the regulator and the draw seemed to disappear. Yeah, I'll probably just drive it around town and see how it does. At the moment the truck is used for longer trips with a camper on it so not ideal to just wing it haha. Why is the...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Put the new regulator on, started the truck and the multimeter read 13.65(ish) when running and then when accelerating it only got up to like 13.85. I will say, that after shutting off the truck and checking the battery again the batteries went from 12.52 up to 12.84 so it seems like it did...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Ok, wen't a bit in the other direction and just ordered a new voltage regulator. I'm not too interested in going picking at the junkyard to find the stuff for the 3G swap. Regulator is $40 on summit racing and I can try that first. Just going to focus on attempting that and then replacing the...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Ok, ok now you're just making fun of me, haha! No clue what the hell the globe is for. Should I just upgrade to a 3G alt at this point? I'm going to be out of town until September 8th on a work trip starting late tomorrow night. When I get back I'm going to build or buy new positive and...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I may just replace the voltage regulator. Summit sells the Motorcraft ones for $38.00. I think it is an isloator and you can see it in the bottom middle of this below photo. You can see where the wires go in this picture. Top post on the isolator goes to the alternator, middle post goes to...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

That wire runs to the bottom post on what I believe is a battery isolator thats mounted on the passenger side of the radiator. Is that battery isolator an add-on put in by the previous owner not a stock part of the wiring...? I don't think I have the 3G alternator because my regulator is...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Found the culprit I think! Unplugged the wire going from the regulator to the alternator and the light went off. I guess this means my regulator or alternator is bad? See picture below. FYI - the big red wire in the back is currently un-attached but I did the test with it attached.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I attached both positive and did get the test light to turn on. You can see where its been grounded in the images as well (gator clip with red plastic cover). Now where do I go from here? I have a voltmeter (multimeter) that I can use. Possibly notable things, in the last 6+ months I...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

I don't have an LED test light but I'll try it with my classic incandescent first. This is kind of stupid but I want to make sure I do it right. You're saying clip it where the actual frame ground is or just clip it to the frame to ground it and then touch negative and if it lights when I...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Yes, I have a test light. What do you think I should test or how? Was planning on checking volts of new battery connecting then testing again 45 minutes to 1 hr later.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Alright, got two new group 65 batteries 850 CCA from Napa. Thought maybe I should just connect one battery maybe drivers side first and check it after an hour or so and see if there is any parasitic drain. What do y'all think? I figure this would be better than plugging both batteries in and...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Nice! Yeah, I tested with it connected and it read like 12.8 or something so maybe the charger Isn't the problem.

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Drivers side battery sat on the trickle charger all day and the charger said it was full so I took it off and it read 11.8 and then drained to 11.6 by this morning... not great. Pass side battery charged over night and trickle charger said it was charged and it read 11.8...not great. Maybe the...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

For some reason over night the charger stopped so I took the battery out and started the charger in the work shed, at work now so who knows. I’m thinking the charger is on its last leg. Just curious again, does the truck need charged batteries in order to run once it’s started? Also, since...
