Towing an RV i have thought about 3.73s. I bought a 32 foot flagstaff on the north Carolina coast and brought it home about 750 miles. The truck pulled great between 22 and 2400 RPMs which was too fast for a trailer that long in 5th and too slow for 4th. I ended up running 60-65 in fourth most...
If I ever have to get into my zf I will definitely grab the lower first gear out of the later model s47 transmissions. Otherwise I choose my gears to keep my rpms up. That means running 65 in fourth gear down the interstate. It tows great there, but falls flat on its face if I move to 5th.
I...
I tow heavy (10-15K) pretty frequently with 33's and 3.55s. I do have a turbo. Only issue I have is getting a big load started on a hill, but the transfer case is always there if I need it.
I rarely tow like that in 5th gear. Fourth with 3.55 is almost the exact same final drive as 4.10s in...
It also will not start if the metering valve is stuck in the ip. I have had success with that having someone work the throttle while trying to start it and have someone else tap ip gently with hammer at the same time.

Good looking survivor. I even think that is a DNE overdrive controller on the shifter.
Its not mine.
I have seen the one off high speed belch of black on several diesels over the years. My only guess is that blowby oil condensate builds up somewhere and then gets sucked in the intake and burned. I came to this theory after hitting a series of bumps in my John Deere tractor one day and observing...
i am running 285s on stock suspension. The PO put extra washers on the front bumper bolts to move it out about 1/2 inch. Best I can tell its not needed with the tires, but I have never tried to remove them.
Make sure you adjust the valves on it before condemning it to the slow lane. They are never fast, but a valve adjustment can make a noticeable performance boost.
There was a teenager on here several years ago that did it with lots of pictures. I think he had to notch the back of the cab where the frame came up for the bed...........I'll try to remember his name and search.
You don't have to delete the manual pump as long as the electric one is downstream of the manual one. They work in tandem well, but if the manual one fails and the electric one is in front of it, the electric one could pump diesel into your crankcase. As long as the electric one comes after the...
Notice the locations of the respondents. Never happens in Cali, but problems where there is big temp swings and humidity.
That is what causes it mostly. In Tn you should only store a vehicle with a full tank. When empty the air takes on the humidity on warm days and then condenses when it...
