    fuel mileage queston

Timing can make a difference as well. I have picked up a couple mpgs by advancing timing when needed. My 6.9 with 4.10s and a 5 speed averages 15. that is with a 10 foot reefer box on the back.

    core support interchange

will the front core support off of an OBS powerstroke work in an IDI? My core support is shot on my 94 and I have a line on a cheap 95 powerstroke with a bad transmission. It has lots of parts I could use, but the core support is my main project at the moment. If not, any commentary on which...

    Oil change interval

My experience is the motor will tell you when change is overdue. Oil consumption will stay normal to a point, and then engine will start to eat oil. At that point you have used up the additive package and you are (in my opinion) about 1000 miles overdue. I would try the full 9000, but woulds...

    Fan Clutch

That highway engagement was common in one I had. If I rememeber it has a 190 thermostat and I changed it to a 160 to stop it......or maybe it was a 210 and I changed it to a 190? It was more than a decade ago, but regardless it took care of the issue.

    Fan Clutch

What degree thermostat do you have? If the fan clutch is cycling like that under low load, you can often stop it by putting in a lower temp thermostat

    Sluggish intermittent wiper control

Mine works great as long as my hand is on it wiggling it gently on whatever level I want it on, so I would second the switch cleaning.

Converting to Electronic glow plug control

The main wiring difference with the older screw in controller is it uses a separate solenoid on the passenger fender to actually engage the glowplugs. The later solid state connector has the solenoid integrated into it so all the wiring is together. I bought the accurate diesel "upgrade" for...

    2018 Rally progress

This one might have been fake anyway. This was a big white fifth wheel and the stack came up right in front of the nose. I thought at the time he must be really dialed in. In retrospect I don't see how he wouldn't have a black front on that thing unless he had just hooked it up.

    2018 Rally progress

I am bummed i missed it. When my wife showed up to the airport to pick me up she had 5 kids in car (three of mine and two of my college roommate) and was all ready to head back to camp and cook supper with my old college buddy. On the way back around roanoke, I pulled past a white extended cab...

    2018 Rally progress

Well, I should have been paying more attention. My family has been camped in the national forest outside of Harrisonburg since Saturday. I am flying in on Thursday to be with them and could drop by on Thursday evening. They drove up in the 85 mercedes towing our popup. It is technically an...

Diesel Down! 911 in Beaumont Tx, help!

BTW. If you didn't do it already, its a good idea to put a slight flare on the steel where you add the rubber line. If you don't the line can come loose under pressure in cold weather when the steel line shrinks. That omission has stopped many on a cold morning (myself included)

Diesel Down! 911 in Beaumont Tx, help!

How low are you on fluid? The universal stuff will work, but if you only lost a quart or two you will be fine to go three miles.

    Money Pit #2 Won't run.

Those compression numbers sound suspiciously low to me. I'd hate to have you pull the motor only to find your new cheap compression tester was bad.

    Money Pit #2 Won't run.

Check your compression tester on a known good engine. If its good, then test again after adding oil to each cylinder. If numbers go up that would indicate bad rings.
