Its not mentioned on here a lot, but a sticking metering valve in the pump will make these things impossible to start when cold. Hopefully this pump will get you going.
You can leave the FIPL on the pump, or take it off. It comes off easily.
The static marks are only good for the first pump build, so I wouldn't draw any conclusions about where a pump sits relative to the marks at this point.
I just tackled my firewall leak last week with info from this thread. Couple notes:
On the OBS trucks, you can still get to the old vent access mentioned in an earlier post on the passenger side, but the drivers side is covered by the e brake bracket. If you remove the cowl cover you can snake...
Thats it. Your selector valve isn't working. It may just have crap in it. The cheapest and easiest solution is to have someone else turn the switch between tanks while you tap the valve gently with a hammer. I have had that work.
You could also replace the valve. That always works. Someone...
For me that symptom was popped rivet on the clutch disc which caused the friction material to continuously drag on the flywheel.
Kit you ordered will fix that for sure.
The nut is a one time service item. It should be replaced rather than retorqued. Or, if you are cheap like me, at least smother it in threadlocker before reusing it. Folks on here have had it back off multiple times if you don't replace or lock it.
The heim joint is a great mod, but if you get in a pinch and cant keep the pushrod on a small pair of needle nosed vice grips clipped onto the end of the pedal stub will hold everything in place and get you shifting again.
I have new bushings and vice grips on all three of my IDIs. One has had...
what he said. It sounds like it could easily be in the linkage. Pedal feel is not a good diagnostic tool in these trucks generally, because there are so many options for pressure plates and its those springs that dictate feel.
I have three of these trucks and they all have different clutch...
Are you saying that when it runs out of fuel the fuel filter is still full? when was the last time you changed your filter?
I have had symptoms like that when my lift pump was going out and when my filter was in need of changing.
My understanding is that it was a cost saving thing with ford early in the digital odometers. They all do that. Ford apparently saved some coin by having it go back to 300 at 399. I think that glitch went away in the latter obs trucks.
All you need is the wiring harness plug off a later model and it will work fine. I have one for a 96 spliced into my 86. I paid $2 for the wiring plug at the junkyard. You will need to do this if yours ever fails since the 86 and back aren't available.
I am willing to chip in on any oilburners memorial or whatever. @typ4 maybe you could ask his daughter what would be most appropriate when you hear about arrangements.
They say the internet is a cold heartless place, but calvin was one of those guys who I feel like I have known for years, though I never laid eyes on him. Sucks to lose a friend, even if you have never met in person.
