Truck is making a grinding sound in the transmission in every gear except for neutral. This leads me to believe the TC is on its way out. Any suggestions for a replacement? I do very little towing and the truck is more of a daily driver. Thanks.
What's the cab/bed configuration on your truck?
Anything shorter than a crew cab long bed you should be fine up to 90 mph with a single piece driveshaft.
http://a1driveshaft.com will set you up with a single piece shipped to you for about $270.
I went this route with both my trucks and never...
Start simple...see what I did there? :Thumbs Up
Put down the ether can...you will damage the engine soon enough with that.
Since you have no service history, I would remove the valve covers and replace all 8 glow plugs as well as the GPR with the larger stancor unit.
While the valve covers...
remove slave cylinder and measure the distance to the fork. Chances are it's bent if it was never replaced with the updated part.
sounds like you have 4.10 gearing, the axle code of the door jam sticker would confirm.
Correct. Oil should come from all 8 injectors while running or cranking the engine over. This indicates that the injector is firing on the oil and electrical side. The only thing left after that is fuel (aside from a mechanical failure of an engine component.)
they can pass the meter test and still be bad. Easiest to do the oil cap sniff or harness test while running. Heck if it was my truck I'd already have the valve covers off as it's not that hard to do.
probably a burnt UVCH. Remove the oil cap and give a sniff....do you smell burnt plastic/wiring ?
If the failure is intermittent, the PCM will sometimes shut down 1 bank of cylinders giving you that "big cam" sound as the engine tries to run on 4 cylinders.
Another test with the engine running...
headliner is falling down in a lot of spots....almost ready to just rip it off.
what options do I have?
I've been looking for a complete interior to swap over, but no luck so far.
WTS light when key on prior to starting?
If so, pull one (preferably both) valve covers and crank the engine over. Is oil spurting from the injectors indicating they are firing?
97 OBS powerstroke, leaking at the "quick disconnect" fuel line fittings below the PS pump on the drivers side. Haven't investigated further but wondering if I can replace with rubber diesel rated fuel line and clamps?
You can also take your old nut and with a punch tap the pin outwards just enough so that it will engage with the washer again. Did that on my 97 and have kept motoring for thousands of miles like that.
