Can a cam install be done while the motor is in-frame?
YES.
Is it a lot more work compared to pulling the motor?
YOU BETCHA.
I've done it both ways.
I'd rather pull the motor so I can re-seal the oil pan and re-do the rear main seal since I was already there.
I make a decent living by being an asshole, so I am not out of character telling you this. Look at what you got. both are disassembled project trucks with some fairly nice parts. But in essence, parts trucks. There is no mention of CA title or current reg or even NON-OP......and you know what...
there are three, or four if you get real picky, generational differences on Banks turbos for the Ford IDI. The older non-wastegated models are trans specific. even one from a T19 will not fit onto a ZF5. It's that specific. Why? the uppipes come around the sides fo the trans and up the backside...
just woke and saw this mess.
1) good thing you caught this before the trans got pumped dry.
2) the trans can hold 17 quarts for fluid. no telling how much you may have lost. but a couple of quarts won't do shit.
3) while you are at oriley's, the trans hose is either sold in 2 foot prepack or...
you just saved me from crawling under the truck to take pics.

Copart and their rival, Insurance Auto Auctions, are the largest auction houses for selling off salvage vehicles. Recently, both have also gotten into donation vehicles and tow yard lien vehicles. Why is buying from them a dicey idea? most of the vehicles will have underbody forklift damage from...

there's no mistaking one from the other. :D
my 'burb does mild off-road adventures, so it won't see a nice paint just ever, but a scratch and shoot with stuff from TSC.
1990 "should" have been the first year for the 4L80E. Unlike the E4DOA, that trans is bulletproof.
mime isn't rusty but is plagued with the delaminating paint :O
