    Slow crank after possible overheat

What year Powerstroke? Here’s a long shot, but worth looking into. Although it sounds like it could have overheated, keep in mind that the early valve cover harnesses are pretty notorious for failure (ask me how I know). If you have the early version with two plugs on each valve cover, or...

    Newbie from Illinois

Welcome to OBs. As a three time Midwesterner, all I can say is look to the South or West for a clean truck. All the mechanical stuff can be redone, but starting with a clean body/chassis will make you far happier in the long run.

    No start without starting fluid.

I know you replaced the starter, but are your batteries and cables in good condition? The speed that you spin these engines is a big part of starting them, especially when cold. Lastly, when was the last time you checked timing?

    Water pump going bad?

Just remember the nut on the fan clutch needs to be tight (over 100 foot pounds if I am remembering correctly, do a search and get the torque spec) which isn’t easy without a crows foot of specialty fan clutch wrench. Lots of past posts about the nut coming loose at shut down and fan blades...

E4OD IDI transmission with billet converter

Yep, I should have left this one back there with you Russ. I wanted to carry a spare on my trip East but now all I do is trip over it in my garage.

If you really want to understand AB5, google Mike Rowe AB5 and listen to the podcast entitled “The Ballad of Tom Odom”. It’s a really good listen.

The Coors Light welding apron in the last pic is a true cherry on top. Great story, thanks for sharing.

E4OD IDI transmission with billet converter

Bump. I still have a good used E4OD with a billet converter. I'd love to see this go to a good IDI home as it has the four bolt IDI specific converter. Make me an offer, it's on a pallet and easy to load into the back of a truck in northern Indianapolis.

    Parts becoming obsolete

Don't get hung up on the shock absorber versus non-shock absorber version. I've broken both, my recommendation is to keep a spare tensioner and belt behind the seat. Good luck and welcome to OB.

Welcome to OB. Just wondering: what mix of HPOP, turbo and injectors are you using on your Superduty?

    Manual Shift Valve Body

Easy question for you: does it downshift with generous use of the accelerator? If it does, it's not a manual valve body.

    New Mechanical Lift Pump...

I ran a fair amount of WMO in my IDI, and in my experience, unless you are centrifuging and paying lots of attention to viscosity, you are going to see more pressure drop across a stock fuel filter with WMO. The light is an indicator, but if you really want to monitor you should use a fuel...

    Hydroboost Ghost

Strange ghost indeed. I seem to remember something about the hydroboost needing a power steering reservoir with two return ports. Might not be your problem, but I remember somebody saying you could not just tee the returns together.

    Idi vs super duty

I've owned both. The performance of the last generation 7.3 Powerstrokes are undeniable: they make really nice power. In all fairness: that's a turbocharged and intercooled 7.3. I think a larger than stock IDI injector pump, a good set of injectors, and a better than stock turbo gets you...

    96 First Powerstroke

RiffRaff Diesel is pretty good for PSD stuff. I have a 1995, which has the twin plug harness which is considered the worst design of the UVCH, so I converted mine to the heavier single connector design. I bought all the Alliant pigtails and injector harnesses from RiffRaff, but nobody had any...

    96 First Powerstroke

Be careful with cheap valve cover gaskets and harnesses. Lots of horror stories about cheap aftermarket parts causing issues with injectors on PSDs. They are spendy, but the Alliant stuff is best quality.

    96 First Powerstroke

The location of the fuel pump and fuel bowls on the first Gen PSDs really is not ideal from a service standpoint. Do some Googling, you will find that the OBS Powerstroke fuel bowls are notorious for leaking. I had a stubborn fuel leak where everything was dry while idling, but as soon as a...

    '95 F250 7.3L shooting oil out exhaust?

Take a look at your turbo and see if you’ve got play in the wheel or signs of seal damage. If that checks out it could be injector orings. Good luck

E4OD IDI transmission with billet converter

I bought this as a backup for mine. Looks like it’s out of a pre-1992 as it’s got the rod linkage not the cable shifted linkage. It’s comes with a billet converter, which is the reason I bought it. I’m certain it’s been rebuilt, I will attach the tag from the converter. I assumed if somebody put...

    Hard Fuel Line possible adapters/connections
