    97 12v in a skoolie.

Welcome to OB. There's not a ton of traffic for Cummins stuff here as the majority of the content is 6.9/7.3 Navistar. Just trying to let you know if you don't get a ton of participation, don't be surprised or frustrated. My suggestion would be to look towards a more 12V Cummins specific site...

Anybody need a good deal on a 7.3 PSD clutch kit?

This looks like a very good deal to me. Wish I needed one. https://columbus.craigslist.org/pts/d/galena-clutch-kitsolid-flywheel-for/7675062678.htmlg

Wiring harness and thinking about selling

So here’s my opinion: the lift and big tires are really hurting you regarding towing. The “doggy when towing” is all relative: I pulled my race car over several passes in a normally aspirated IDI. Was it ideal? Nope. Did I spend a lot of time in third gear with my foot to the boards until...

    Vegetable Oil Off The Shelf

The only shortcoming with soy or canola is low temp and/or blending issues, but down where you are I don't think you'll have any issues. I say go for it, especially if you like the way it smells :) One more thing to consider: it's common in many states for diesel pumps to be B5 or even...

    another possible cab swap

You missed a number on the medium duty, sometimes referred to as "business class" :joker: I know, I know: you are going to use what you have, and you have an F350. Still an awesome swap IMNSHO ;Sweet

    another possible cab swap

"Basterd Powertrain Hybrid" I love it as it irritates the Ferd and Chebby crowd, as well as any purists who just love stock because it's stock. Go for it, sounds like good old fashioned swappers guide cool :cool

    Keep cracking heads

+1 with JoshBear on the fact that you have an odd issue. IDIs do a lot of goofy stuff, but cracking between the valves isn't very common. One additional question: is this issue happening on the same head(s), or have you swapped heads only to have a different head crack in a similar place...

Bolt down system for truck canopy

Nice fabrication work ;Sweet Kudo's to you for being a packrat and saving the old bed off your truck. Nice write up/documentation too. As an OBS with canopy owner, my view is pure jealousy.

    Slow crank after possible overheat

Best guess is that is carbon build up from infrequent oil changes. If it was my truck, I'd suggest a couple things if they want to keep it a long time: Clean and reshim all the solenoids. My truck had some cold start roughness at just over 100K, and all the solenoids needed to be shimmed. It...

Got to do a rear brake job.... any advice?

Oh, and read this, so when you pick up your new shoes you can be certain they are "correct": https://www.oilburners.net/threads/the-problem-with-new-brake-shoes-and-the-parking-brake.86722/

Got to do a rear brake job.... any advice?

I was just inside of my dually rear brakes last weekend, it's a 1995 and the drums definitely slide off. You are in California, so they shouldn't be stuck on, but just in case they are, be patient and use the extra holes in the drum as well as the holes for the studs to apply the penetrating...

Advice: Tire valve extensions /TPMS/ Pressure EqualizersDRW

Thanks to all for the collective info and recommendations. I appreciate all the insight on the stainless steel valve stems, and I will go that route when I replace the tires, but I wanted to be able to remove/replace a leaky stem on sight without breaking down the tire. I figured this might...

Need Part # and /or Source for Park Brake Actuator

I'm betting you've got to buy the whole "brake hardware kit", which will come with all the springs, bushings, washers, keepers, etc. Sucks to have to buy all the other stuff you don't need, but at least it will all be shiny and new when you are done. Good luck in your quest for the one high...

    WTB Clean ‘93-94 Ford F250/F350 IDI 4x4

Buy Stu Bailey's truck, and agree to give him first right of refusal to buy it back when he gets back. You'll get a great rig at a fair price because it's built into the potential buyback program. Everybody wins
  15. lotzagoodstuff

    Selling the rig

That's a super nice rig. I really liked my old 1992 F250, and 160K is pretty low considering that truck is now 30 years old. IMNSHO, you should consider two things: 1. If you really want to sell it, you have to put a price on it. 2. You should really consider keeping it. I don't know how...

    1989 F250 Stage 3 Intercooled T04Z for Sale (PA)

So I gotta ask: what medium duty platform are you going to build? I'm just curious what GCWR you are going after with what I can only guess would be a more pumped up IDI. As the National Enquirer used to say back in the 80s: "Enquiring minds want to know." :popcorn

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

Just in case you can't find anybody local, this is from the "Those Who Provide Excellent Service" sticky: If you are looking for a starter or alternator rebuilder in the greater Seattle area, look no further. Scott is "The Man". Super knowledgeable, super detailed, super fast and get this...

Batteries 100% drained dead - new problem

+1 on getting it rebuilt locally, you just have to find the best guy in your zip code. If you were in Seattle this would be very easy: Scott at "The Rebuilder" on Central is the absolute best I've ever met. Too bad he's not closer to you.

Advice: Tire valve extensions /TPMS/ Pressure EqualizersDRW

Forgot to add: I am really starting to loath the standard rubber valve stems. If anybody has any good upgrades for stock steel dually rim valve stems, I'd love to get something better than the failure prone rubber versions.

Advice: Tire valve extensions /TPMS/ Pressure EqualizersDRW

So I'm not really big on resuscitating old threads, but I had my inner valve stem on my dually leak today due to too much side loading from the extension hose. At first I was pissed as I really needed to pick something up today, but in the end I was really happy that I noticed the odd tire...

    Driveline Center Support Bearing replacement

+1 on the cut off wheel and chisel method. For installation, if you want to shrink something a little bit to aid pressing a bearing on, and you don't have dry ice and/or it's too big to put in the freezer, go get a can of Loctite Freeze and Release. It's really made to loosen frozen bolts...

    My wife's bronco died!

It is hard to believe that any chain can stretch that much. I know miles and heat make things to funny things, but cheap parts really do suck. Think about the fact that for just a few dollars more than that POS the previous owner installed, you can get a quality double roller set that really...

    Front receiver hitch

https://www.oilburners.net/threads/stealth-front-receiver-installed.40426/ You have a tough ask to put a front hitch on and keep an intercooler as everything will be completing for space. I built a front hitch on my old IDI with a flip up license plate bracket (remember filling up the old GM...

    6.9 or 7.3?

Do a compression test and report back on what you get out of each cylinder. I would actually do that on both of the engines you have. In my opinion, if you get pretty even numbers out of all cylinders, that's a really good sign that the long block is in decent condition. If you find super low...
