    Fuel Leak

Go get two rolls of paper towels, two cans of carb cleaner, a good air gun with a long tip, a bright flashlight and a small inspection mirror, hopefully on the end of a telescopic handle. Mop up every bit of diesel you can in the valley, spray the rest with carb cleaner and blow off everything...

So what did you do with your truck today?

How about a one foot pipe wrench and a cheater bar? :D

Need advice on a 6.9 purchase

You can rent one or buy one, but you are essentially pressurizing the coolant system up at about 30 psi. Similar to a cylinder leakdown test, but you are pressurizing the coolant side versus the combustion side. See if it bleeds down and then chase and hopefully pinpoint the leak down...

Need advice on a 6.9 purchase

You could pressurize the coolant system and see if you can see how fast and where the pressure goes. If it hasn't put any coolant in the oil, it's probably a head gasket. Good luck

    1997 f350 passenger bank misfire

Any idea if the UVCH are original or aftermarket? There's a lot of questionable two plug aftermarket UVCHs out there. If they have been replaced already with some aftermarket UVHCs, I'd look hard at all the connections and move them around when you are measuring the impedance. I'm sure you've...

    Detroit 6V-53 swap questions

Good call. I didn't think about the aluminum version. That really does make a big weight difference.

    Detroit 6V-53 swap questions

You might be able to make it fit, but I think the weight of that engine will be the hold up.

    Rough idle

How many miles? If you have never shimmed your injectors and you have significant mileage, you could think about it, or at least check a couple of them with a feeler gage. I only had 105K on mine and every one of them needed to be shimmed. My truck started hard and idled poorly until it...

Sort of a Newbie. Compression test.

I'd get your fittings sorted out and do a proper compression and leak down test to try to verify what you really have, but in my opinion, if it starts well, I wouldn't be too worried about it. While you have the glow plugs out, I'd check all of them and replace as needed. You shouldn't have to...

    Front Braided Lines

BrakeQuip has crimpers on site at their dealers who can make brake hoses on site right from your old ones. I have no idea who sells their stuff in the northeast, but it’s kind of nice to have somebody make them exactly how you want right in front of you. I guess I’m spoiled that way in regards...

    Pinion nut / seal

+1 on checking your carrier bearing as Catbird said above. It’s easy abs cheap to fix when you have the driveshaft out. Mark the driveshaft, just so you are sure it’s the same phase when you reassemble. I wouldn’t be afraid to swap the seal and reinstall the pinion nut, but I would clean the...

Starter drama. This can happen to anyone with a diesel. Or maybe just me.

It cost you a couple of days, but in the end you correctly diagnosed and repaired your truck. Look at the bright side: you're still getting out of California. Three cheers for perseverance!

    Loss of power under load

Are you using diesel specific oil motor oil like Delo or Rotella? Regardless of color, if you have any foaming in the oil, it will inhibit the hydraulic injectors on a 7.3 PSD from working properly.

    1953 Chrysler Imperial Turbo Diesel

5 or 6 cylinder MB engines are cheap, simple and bullet proof. I'm betting that Chrysler is pretty heavy, but I don't think 150-200 horsepower and 20ish MPG would be too far fetched. I like the 606 engine as they are newer/lower mileage and you can retrofit them with the mechanical pump from...

    Allison 6 speed transmision?

Russ has a gasser ZF5 in his white truck, there’s a couple of things you have to do to the bell housing to make it IDI bolt on, I think the bottom holes need to be drilled but the top bolts line up, pretty sure it’s documented with pics on here.

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

Those are pretty good charge air cooler numbers, and 25 psi is a lot of boost. I love the thought of making things simpler, and I think using radiator fluid for an air to water would definitely make it less complex. My apprehension is that although a water to air intercooler is more inherently...

head gasket, oil cooler O rings, or cavitation?

In theory, the oil pressure should be higher than the coolant pressure, so an oil cooler oring leak really should put oil in the coolant and not vice versa. In theory, communism makes everybody equal and happy too :D You could try to pressurize the coolant system with a regulator and gage and...

    Re-Torquing Head Bolts

Coolant from the engine isn't cold enough to intercool, you'll need to run a separate system with pump/reservoir/etc. If you really want to go air to water, take a look at the intercooler that IDiot used on ASmith's build for some insight. Link attached below. Front mounted air to air...
