    Project Queso

I remember reading the same thing back in the day, however, I think you have to consider that the majority of those reports were from carbureted gasoline applications. Remember those engines and how they fuel washed the cylinder walls? Fast forward to today’s modern injection systems where I’ve...

    Project Queso

The wiring and fans is super sanitary, but if I was custom intercooler piping, that's what I'd want to look like

Ok going full Dr house on this bitch

+1 on not using Dorman UVCH, lots of horror stories about them not working well out if the box.

    Belt tensioner question

This is good info, but not for this post or the IDI forum. The “dually” tensioner is a great 7.3 Powerstroke update (just did one in my 95, pics attached) but unfortunately it’s not applicable to a 7.3 IDI.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Hey Rock: I really like the brush guard on you crew cab, but I'm on the fence on the "all chrome" bumper. A newer style OBS bumper with the black trim and cutouts will make that front end look completely different. Just a thought. In any case: I love the green ;Sweet

Yes, i seem to remember that on the last one I changed, and it seemed odd to me as well.

    Belt tensioner question

“Got it out! Looks like this thing is a P O S” There: I fixed that for you ;) If you don’t change the idler pulley, and it throws the belt and busts another tensioner or fan clutch, you will be mad or sad. Change the idler.

So what did you do with your truck today?

Because like so many other things these days, it’s easy to type up “I do custom work” than it used to be to hang a legitimate physical sign over your door advertising your craft. I would look for somebody who advertises marine upholstery, and at a very minimum ask them if they have a sewing...

They say a broken clock is right twice a day :p Good for you for stocking a spare tensioner.

    Belt tensioner question

From a couple of my old notes, the tensioner pulley to tensioner bolt is a 15MM left handed thread. The tensioner to block is a Torx T50 normal thread. I seem to remember that at least one of the bolts had a specific shoulder on it as it was buried in a hole. Lastly, don’t take any of this as...

    Belt tensioner question

In my opinion, all of the IDI tensioners are questionable. Some swear by the “with the shock style” versus “the one without a shock”: I’ve broken both Motorcraft versions. I think Dayco and Gates have some good aftermarket tensioners available for gasoline engines, but I think the pounding of...

    86 f350 6.9 cab/chassis

If it were me, I’d pull all the glow plugs, put some marvel mystery oil, WD40, or some other penetrating oil in all the cylinders and let it sit for a couple of days. After that I would bar the engine over by hand, then crank the engine with the starter and flush all the penetrating oil out as...

Beware Amazon ZD-1-A labeled GPs arriving with ZD-9 parts.

Don’t know if you are still looking fur ZD1s, but I was pleasantly surprised to find these older ones still pretty available. I bought 9 of them (charged them all and one for a spare) at Oreiily’s and with a discount code they were pretty cheap and shipped fast. Details below, Oreillys almost...

Fuel heater wire to activate electric lift pump relay?

Yes, I’m also familiar with all the people who say “C Springs”. If you’ve never seen Pikes Peak, how would you know that C Springs means Colorado Springs? Calculus is pretty hard. Typing is not that hard. In my opinion, the world would be a better place if we spelled it all out and saved the...

Fuel heater wire to activate electric lift pump relay?

Gandlalf: the link worked just fine for me. gjabrown: maybe the Canadian internet is different? :joker: Just kidding. BTW, I love every part of the three Canadian provinces I have spent time in, and IMHO: BC is the best. See how I used all those acronyms? It's awful isn't it, I could...

    F series 460 engines feedback

460s like their petrol. My guesstimation would be 12-13 mpg unloaded, towing you will be lucky to touch 10.

Reman IP fuel setting for existing turbo?

It will be interesting to see how that pump performs as I don't think there's very much history with that supplier here. Fingers and toes are crossed for you, but it's not one of the pump guys that are highly endorsed by this website. :popcorn

    Issues come in bunches

Two things: "Who puts less than 2000 miles a year on this truck?" I bought my PSD in 2014 with 90K on it, and 7 years later it has 116K. I have a company car, and my wife has a Focus that I drive whenever I don't need a truck because it gets 30+ MPG and it's easier to park than the dually...

    Issues come in bunches

Here's the math that you have to use when throwing some "monthly money" at your old IDI: - IF you could buy a new 3/4 or 1 ton diesel for $60,000, the sales tax on it in the state I live in is 6.8%, so you would be looking at another $4080, making the theoretical price approximately $64,000. -...
