    Motorcraft VSS Part #?

Dy1123 is the updated part number, the vss sensor from ~86-04 are the same but ford changed the look a bit in 99, careful in late 04 they changed the design. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=1293936&jsn=3

    Rebuilt engine issuses

I don’t think anything was wrong with the crank or any parts, my guess is the guy weighted the pistons and rods then wrote down the wrong number and messed up the bob weights on the machine, that’s just what I’m thinking happened. Ya around here it’s hard to find good shops that do proper work...

    Project CrewCab

Not to leave the engine issue open in this thread so I swapped out cranks and the vibration is gone here is the thread explaining that story https://www.oilburners.net/threads/rebuilt-engine-issuses.65773/page-4#post-994387

    7.3 IDIT flexplate

I went though this a while back, if you put a NA flexplate on a turbo motor it will shake very bad in the low rpm range, it’s not driveable. As far as availablity the only place I know that has them is r&d...

    Rebuilt engine issuses

@IDIoit I believe you just got an IDIT balanced recently? Did they have to add any weight or do anything special to yours?

    Rebuilt engine issuses

Well I think I maybe able to finally put this thread to rest now. So working on the engine vibration problem, pulled the trans off, pulled the clutch off and bolted up an empty trans case to keep the engine level. Started it up and vibration still there (figures...) ok so let’s try the...

    460 to 7.3 idi swap

I did it, pretty easy but takes a bit of time, I went from a 87 RC to a 95 CC. Adapted the 460 dash harness to work with a 93 idi engine bay harness. Here’s my thread https://www.oilburners.net/threads/project-crewcab.79692/

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Not much to update right now, I am still working on this project, currently dealing with redoing my engine and I’m fighting trying to get my display to work over a serial bus so it only uses 4 wires total instead of 10+. So at the moment the controller/ gauge read out can display : Engine...

Flex Plate for 1994 IDI Turbo

Only place I know that makes one for the factory turbo http://www.idiperformance.com/store/p90/Heavy_Duty_Flexplate_Assembly_W%2F_Spacer_For_93%2F94_Factory_Turbo.html

    Main bolts into oil gallery

I just found it weird that they would drill through where the main bolts went, to me that would be a good way to get small metal shavings into your bearings when you tighten the bolts or even blocking off oil flow if a stud is used and bottomed out. Never seen it before and couldn’t find any...

    Main bolts into oil gallery

Doing a crankshaft swap on my engine and I noticed every main cap has one bolt that goes directly into the drilled oil gallery, I’ve never seen this before and can’t seem to find anything online. Is this normal for the idi blocks or is my already “super special” engine even more “special”...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

I haven’t driven the truck a ton since putting the fan on but every time I switched it on it would lock up and ran cool, unlocking is a different story and I think I have a bad clutch. I have most of the fan controller programing done and it seems to act right on the bench, haven’t hooked it up...

    compression numbers... help

If the engine was cold those numbers look acceptable to me, also depending on what order you tested each cylinder and if you had a battery charger attached or not can skew your results as it cranks over slower. Did you pull all the glowplugs before testing or just one at a time?

Tach moving backwards when engine reaches 1800 rpm

I’ve seen these tachs do weird things before and it’s almost always to do with bad soldering on the circuit board that’s on the back of the tachometer, easy enough to pop the tach out and check or just resolder the board and try it out.

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Well it’s looking like I have a bad clutch... it has unlocked only 2 out of the 6 runs I’ve done with it, doesn’t seem to care if I give it power or not it just stays locked. I may have a line on another used one to try out and see if it performs any different. One interesting note is the fan...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

I believe the nature of viscous fan clutches is to be engaged for the first minute or so, this one just took a bit to turn off and being used I wasn’t sure if it was a bad clutch or not but after the quick drive everything seems right with it. 1: my calibrated hand torque wrench wasn’t working...

    Adding pyrometer to 6.9

I put mine right on cylinder 8 where there is a raised boss, I have the fitting thread in but no probe in this picture, was easy to drill and tap for 1/8” npt, sorry for the poor pic this is the only one I have of it. Upper right of the picture, red circle.

    Fan clutch upgrade...

I used one of the metal bars that goes across the radiator to hold the wiring and left a bit of slack for engine movement. Clip end to hold the electrical plug Wire hold down ties, little over kill Finished radiator support bar Wire ties bent over to hold the wiring And the...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

The fan is in and good timing too as the oem clutch I had on there has been puking it’s oil out for a while now. Stock water pump threads. Bushing to adapte to the 6.4 clutch 6.4L clutch with idi fan threaded on 3/4” clearance to radiator, more then enough for engine movement...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

No updates yet, I haven’t forgot about it just been busy with life and work and motivation to work on the truck, hoping to have some update in the next week or so. I did go to the auto wreckers and get a pigtail for the clutch and an AC pressure transducer.

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Well until I try out the clutch and see how it works, the controller is just a concept idea at the moment, if the clutch is just lock and unlock then there is absolutely no need for a fancy controller. Also I’m doing a controller mostly for a gauge read out too as aftermarket gauges are not...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Figured I would post my idea of a fan controller and the circuit I have so far in case anyone here is a bit electronic tech savvy. The main goal of this controller is to use ford temperature sensors as you can get millions of them from the wreckers for nothing, they come in all different threads...

    Fan clutch upgrade...

Haven’t had a chance to work on it much, hoping to get a plug for the clutch tomorrow so I can at least put it on the truck and try it out in manual control. I also have to drill the holes out for the bolts that attach the fan blade to the clutch, my awesome uncalibrate hand torque wrench ripped...
