That was my first thought, too! Mine had to be bent out of the way it was so bad, scared the fire outta me as I thought I had major engine damage.
I also agree the TOB can chirp at idle but if it's really bad grind under pedal load. So I'm in the "both" camp.
Just because that RayJay turbo is so different and welded right to the header, I wonder if there would be any performance gain if you connected BOTH ends of each header together. So 2 crossover pipes. :sly
:joker: I'm sure it wouldn't be much, and only at upper RPMs, but I do wonder.
Ah ok, so it is a machined surface. In that case I'd have no hesitation swapping one over from a used pump after cleaning out the hole good. Could just be a chunk of sand, etc.
Good question, I suppose I don't know. And realizing now that there are 8 holes like that, I may have been talking outta my bum earlier.
Do you have a spare to investigate that fitting? Maybe it's simple...but I haven't pulled that fitting before to know for sure what's behind that hole.
At...
How did it die? Slowly over time or /done/? If it shut down fast I'd agree with the ignition switch or loose/broken wire to FSS. Could also be the FSS itself, been hearing about them failing lately on the forums.
Internal seal leaking... can point to a worn out IP but in your case improper rebuild more likely, based on how clean the IP is and new tamper-evident paint.
How did it run before the swap? Point is, do you know the injectors and engine health are good, or do you have multiple variables beyond just the IP?
You should not have holes anywhere on the injection lines. Not it's not common, but I suppose it could be a thing. The lines are very thick...
+1 water-to-air CAC for a bull nose. Charge air cooling is the second best mod I've done, right after the turbo(mine is air to air, but I've never read about anyone regretting the water to air)
I personally am shocked at the performance gains I got from it, I would not have believed it without...
So earlier I wondered why nobody uses anaerobic sealant and now I know. It didn't seal my ZF case fully and it's slowly leaking. Probably installer error, though I was as careful as I could be. So that's a PITA.
In other news, poking around in another thread I realized I did the case bearing...
@idibI have essentially this same thing, DIY style. If you are worried about space though, consider a water-to-air CAC instead.
If you go this route and won't be pushing over 350HP, consider 2.5in piping instead of 3". Much easier to fit and work around later on, while giving up very little WOT...
Got me a fancy new shift boot! It's only about 15 years late or something, but thanks to this forum I got the better version with the white foam that will keep the noise down quite a bit!
HAHA that was wild... took like an hour to spool the turbos for launch :joker: You could come to a stoplight, immediately begin spooling and when the moron texting in front of you takes 8 SECONDS to realize the light turned green it wouldn't matter, still spooling... ;burnout
I concur, and raise you the pilot bearing as well! I got SKF for both just recently and the quality difference vs the LuK stuff in your hand is immense.
I think he's saying he just wants to put the Powerstroke TURBO on his IDI. If that's the case, skip it. Lots of people have asked, a few have tried, and to my knowledge nobody has ever done it because the mounting is so different that it's a ridiculous amount of fab work. Custom up-pipes, move...
If you're getting 8mpgs empty at 55mph and your lumy timing is correct then you've got other issues. I don't remember the spec for lumy as I have a pulse meter...
Yes, timing matters a lot. But with these engines it matters most for power and MPGs. The average driver would not be able to tell...
What's an Amish camper? Like one with the least amenities?
I've had two different cabover campers, an 8 foot '76 Kit and a 9.5 foot '88 S&S. The S&S was really well made and apparently was a competitor with Lance in it's day. Heavy beast, too. I liked it overall, too much water intrusion but...
If you're chirping on gravel you've got a LOT more ponies than I do! :joker:
@u2slow
I've heard the LSD also stays tighter with non-synthetic gear oil?
Wes used to post about taking those LSD's and servicing them by flipping every other clutch disc around and he would get them running good...
