Convert to push button start? No key needed?

I wired in a ignition switch for a farm tractor to mine years ago. Whenever it wears out I go to a Napa or Tractor Supply and pickup another one. It has the Acc, off, on and start. I just traced the wires (or a diagram) and hooked them up accordingly. I put a hole in the plastic on the dash on...

Thinking Of Plumbing My Two Tanks Together

My sealing was jb weld. Didn't have a better way and figured if it didn't work I would do the Bronco tank on the rear. It's been 10+ and no problems but a tightening the valve. I'm very happy and, as you wrote earlier, no more thinking of a transfer valve, etc. I'm very old school, simple and...

Thinking Of Plumbing My Two Tanks Together

Your setup is definitely cleaner than mine. I didn't have access to welders or any machining type tools so it is a bit redneck (just like me). My lines are 1/2". After getting under to look at it I remembered that the only place it leaked was a small seepage at the valve on the front tank, I...

Thinking Of Plumbing My Two Tanks Together

Sounds like a decent plan. I would suggest supply and return to the front tank then all the smaller hose needs to do is transfer and it can equalize do it at a stop if needed. Hope yours work as well for you as mine has for me. I had the same reasoning for doing the transfer hose, couldn't find...

Thinking Of Plumbing My Two Tanks Together

I did this over 10 years ago and have had very few issues. 1) I put shutoff valves on both tanks to be able to isolate the tanks if there is a problem. 2) I initially pulled off the front and returned to the rear. This can be an issue if you need to disconnect one of the tanks. I ended up pull...

So what did you do with your truck today?

Not today but June 4th thru 15th. Did a 2,700 mile trip from central Ca thru Bakersfield, 2 days in Hurricane, UT, 2 days in Moab, 3 days in Ft. Collins, CO, then 3 days home across I-80. Elevations ranging from 80 ft to over 11,000 ft above sea level. Had planned to take my overland rig (1999...

Injectors without o-rings... do any exist?

If done right (i.e., carefully with lube), with quality O-rings (i.e., Russ from https://russrepair.com/, type4) they last fine. Mine have 4 1/2 years and 34,000 miles with just a little moisture on the hoses. I usually replace them if I do injectors or at around 5 yr/50,000 mi. If no leaks and...

    Shifter movement

Some movement is normal as the engine "torques" when throttle is applied thus causing the trans to move as they are bolted together. Unless it is very exaggerated I wouldn't worry to much.

    16x8 or 16x10 8x6.5 wheels

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. I had 305/75's on the 7 in ones on the truck now and they are a bit to narrow. I just replaced the 305's with 285's for now. Would like to go back to either 305 or 315, so the 8's or 10's would work good.

    16x8 or 16x10 8x6.5 wheels

Looking for them to allow for 285/75r16 - 315/75r16 tires.

    Zf5 from a 460 truck

From what I've heard one of the advantages of the gasser trans is a lower reverse. That would be a big plus for me if I had the opportunity to do the swap.

GRRRR! Pick up mods that should be illegal

About a week ago, on the way home from work at 4 am, I had a driver going the opposite direction with what looked to be his high beams on. I flashed my high beams to let them know. They flashed a spot light, it was a cop. They didn't pull me over, but you would think the cops mechanics would at...

Looking for a good IP shop

I fully agree that quality is worth it. My son has been driving my truck for a few months (his Wrangler is down). He has told me of several very experienced Diesel mechanic friends comment on how smooth my truck is. 252,000+ miles on the truck, 7-1/2 years/61,000+ miles on a Baby Moose and...

    Found my death wobble!!

Found something similar on mine about 8-9 years ago. It gave me a reason to put a 4" lift on it.:Thumbs Up Anything lower didn't come with new brackets.:D

    Tint Issues

Only when I was to cheap to pay someone mine was like that. I know when my daughter had her Honda Accord done by a highly recommended shop in town it looked like it came from the factory with the darker tint. I would try to get some recommendations and ask another shop. If I pay good money I...

    3G Alternator Question

Stopped using Autozone years ago. They earned the nickname "Neverlast" in my experience. I guess it is all a crap shoot anymore. I bought a highly recommended (on this site, from San Jose area) starter for my '90. 12 month warranty. It lasted 13. I decided on O'Reilly for easy replacement. It...

Harbor Freight Jack stand recall- sudden failure

If you read the recall (I have) there are only a few model #'s in the recall. Not all 3 ton and 6 ton are included. I have used HF jack stands for over 10 years with no problem. In fact I just received another pair last week. Most professional mechanics I know don't trust this style (any brand)...

    Starter upgrade?

Never used Powermaster. Tried DB, it lasted 13 months (12 month warranty). Decided to just go with O'Reilly Ultima Starter Part # R812323A (Easy to warranty, Lifetime warranty). It's lasted 2 1/2 years/22,000 miles DD. Some have a hard time replacing them. I can do it in 15-20 min.

    Changing Our Own Tires

I used these on the Mud tires (285/75r16, 8 oz per tire): https://www.counteractbalancing.com/ They worked well (smooth up to around 70-75 mph). When I went to change tires the beads had very little wear on them and I planed to reused them. When the machine broke (securing ring) I went ahead...

    Changing Our Own Tires

This is why I do it myself, this and I usually use balancing beads. The beads made my last mud tires as smooth as A/T's. My machine (HF) broke on the last change and I had to have a shop mount and balance. I came home and almost couldn't get the lug nuts loose to re-torque. A mechanic friend has...
