I ended up getting super busy again but I've got the truck more or less back together now. The front of the truck had a minor accident so I'm waiting to put the rest of the front end /hood back together until I find replacements or fix it up what I have.
The motor runs well and it starts...
Hello everyone I am back, I got send out for a work trip the day after I posted my last comment and I have been out since yesterday. Here is a status update.
I ended up buying 2 slabs of granite instead of the glass thanks to Kizers recommendation. One slab I purchased was perfectly straight...
I like this idea, I'm going to give it a shot with a few changes. I'm going to get a piece of glass large enough to cover the whole deck and a few large sheets of sand paper, I'll throw a few weights on top to make sure I have even pressure. I anticipate hours and hours of sanding in my future...
I am sure I did not do the damage but I agree that it would be something that would be hard get them to fix. There is a similar scratch on the other side that touches the new sleeve they put in, I am not very concerned about that one because It is so minor and you can't feel it with your nail...
Hello everyone, I finally got the motor back from the machine shop and started assembly the other day. I got the motor on the stand and after I started on the pistons I noticed there is a gouge on the deck that goes into the combustion chamber.... This is damage that I guarantee I did not do...
Ok thanks everyone, I will look more into the head studs. Does anyone know a good budget friendly option? I'm not opposed to head studs but $500 is a little steep and I'm trying to stay married haha.
Also does anyone know what the stock head bolts can realistically handle?
I've got another question, are the rod bolts/studs reusable? I generally think of rod bolts as non reusable but these studs don't seem easy to remove without damaging something? I am also curious about the head bolts/main cap bolts, I have been told that they are reusable on the IDIs but I...
I appreciate everyone's help answering my questions, I have ordered all the parts for my rebuild and will post an update when I get it back together. I did go ahead and order those lower compression pistons (Thanks for your insight XOLATEM), I suppose it will allow me room in the future to throw...
I have dropped off my block at the machine shop to get the cylinder sleeved and I will rebuild the motor in a few weeks when I get it back. I found pistons from Mahle that I was planning to buy but I just realized that the Pistons I am able to find are low compression pistons with .010 shaved...
I would spend that sort of money if this is something I wanted to daily drive but this is mostly just for the fun of it. I already have a F250 7.3 PS as my daily driver which I've sunk some money into fixing it up right. I'm more trying to figure out the best way to get it running to a point...

I took a closer look at my pistons and unfortunately I found that at least 5 are cracked. I found some turbo pistons from Mahle and they have a product number listed for the rings to use with their pistons. The pistons plus rings cost about 1k which sucks, I'm not trying to sink too much money...
Thanks for everyone's replies. I got busy and didn't have time to check the forum. I have decided I will get the block checked over by a machine shop and sleeve the cylinders that are damaged. I will also have them machine the heads/deck. My only issue is the pistons/rings. The only product...
Thank you for your reply, attached is a photo I got of the cylinder wall from the coolant side this is what cavitation looks like on the coolant side?
I'm also curious if anyone has any idea where to find piston rings? I've gone through the catalogs and hasting had made the IDIT rings but it...
I am currently rebuilding my 1993.5 IDI Turbo engine due to water in the oil. I was hoping it was something simple and not the dreaded cavitation. I removed all of the pistons which most look fine for 300k but cylinder 4 (If I'm remembering correctly) has heavy pitting and rust which has led me...
